I had posted here earlier about wanting to change my R25 barrel from 7mm.08 to .308, mostly for convenience... However, now I have had a change of heart. This was going to be hunting rig, so I have no intention of making it "tacti-cool", and was surprised from the different groups I shot when at the range. Because of the heavy trigger, I was not able to get the groups I am sure this monster is capable of. With factory and some hand loads, I was able to get anywhere from 2.5 inch groups, to less than an inch.. VERY HAPPY HUNTER! So now I am shooting a 150 gr BST, RL17 at 45 gr, in a new case, and I am very satisfied.. So off to the happy hunting ground in Denton county, TX. It was a great day for hunting varmints on Friday, so I took my R25, and a few mouth calls an tried my luck... I missed the first one due to poor setup, but was able to connect with one at 265 paces, across a wheat field, and dropped him in his tracks... VERY HAPPY HUNTER indeed!
So now I am not going to change the barrel, I am going to learn more about this new to me round, and see what more I can do... Thanks for listening... http://i873.photobucket.com/albums/ab300/NomadStalker/firstblood.jpg |

Nicely done.
That 7mm/08 is a fine cartridge. Better trajectory than a 308 and will perform just fine on any non dangerous game. I would put Black bear into the non dangerous category as well. I would also not feel under gunned shooting moose with it. I bet you could get it shooting a tad better as well. |
