I'm not trying to start a fight here.  I'm just curios why Rock river 308's are not more popular than they are.  I bought mine 3 months ago and have put over 1k rds through it with nary a hiccup.  It shoots right at 1" with portugese surpluss ammo, and 3/4" or better with HSM or American Eagle hollow point ammo.  While I have held both OBRs and LMTs, I have yet to shoot one.  My question is, what makes these guns worth roughly twice as much as the RRA?  I welcome any negative feedback on the RRAs that is based on personal experience.  One of the selling points for me was being able to use FAL mags.  I have owned FALs for ~15 years now and stocked up on mags when they could be had for $6 (new FN mags)  I realize this is no longer the case, but the mags are no more expensive than Magpul or Armalite mags.  Please educate me.  Like I said at the start, I'm not trying to pick a fight here.

RRA makes some good rifles... I think you just see the separation by mags.  The more standardized mags made by Magpul for instance show where the industry is going.  Magpul is a very savvy company and they usually signal where things are going or will go.  Nothing wrong with RRA, they just chose the wrong side (so to speak).  Also, some of these others like LaRue and LMT have a better reputation for durability and craftsmanship.

I am in the process of saving up for a 308 ar.  I will probably buy a RRA Lar 8, but I am considering an Armalite AR-10.  I just can not decide.

I have been in the same boat as you for 6 months.  Reading everything I could find about Armalite, RRA and DPMS style guns.  I ended up getting an Armalite SASS.  And yes I paid out the butt for mags but at least I have confidence in them.

To the OP, the thing that discouraged me toward RRA was the mags.  I read several recent posts on other forums where several owners of LAR-8 rifles were unable to get their guns to reliably function on either inch or metric mags.  They had videos posted of their efforts.  They also complained that RRA was not receptive to their issues and they kept giving them extended dates for when RRA manufactured mags would be readily available.  One thing I did really like about the RRA was the ambi controls.  One thing I didn't like was the longer receiver.

I don't have anything against RRA at all.  I have several RRA AR-15's and love them.  But I was not sure at the time I made my purchase that the LAR-8 was where I wanted to spend my money.

OP, no personal experience with RRA, but the reasons I chose Armalite instead.

Funny, I was thinking of starting a similar thread.  The same, but different.  I own two RRA AR's and am very close to buying a third (hence the new thread).  The fit and finish is top notch and they run strong.  Anyone who already has a rifle that takes FAL mags, which is like what, a 1,000,000 people?  Could benefit from the RRA design in .308

Don't want to start a pissing match, as the OP has said.  However, very fine rifles at a very agreeable price point and they get very little love around here.

I am currrently building a DPMS .308... and personally initially I wanted to get an RRA rifle.

I wanted a certain look... and DPMS to me and MY internet searches gave me more options as far as parts, and variety of looks I wanted.

I have a RRA M4gery and I am super happy with it, so initially I think I would be happy with their 308 platform as well.

my question is why not paragraphs?

One can build out a dpms for fairly cheap these days,
lately mil surp fal metrics cost as much or more then magpul or dpms new mags,
also the manual of arms being closer to an ar is a plus for most

I had an LAR-8 and loved it.  Sold it because I can't afford the match .308 ammo.

I think when you get down to it, the reason folks aren't that into it is because they don't take the DPMS style magazines, which as someone said, appears where the industry is headed.

I love my RRA LAR-8 Elite Operator.  I have shot 2k through the gun. Also I have ACC Cyclone Suppressor on it and it shoot great. I have shot alot different loads through the gun. My handloads shot super good. I have also used the gun in some 3 gun stuff and it was great. I use fal magize in my and they work great.
