I am building a .308 and want the look of a fh on the end, one that works good would be good
also. Who makes a light 5/8 x 24 fh? I bought a YHM phantom style, what a pig. I may have to stay with
the A@ style if nothing else.

1000V or 1000V Noveske should cover it.

Smith is quoting over a 1/4 pound for the link above.
I was hoping for something lighter.
I hate to tip my barrel with .28 lb.

Thats 4oz.and its not going to get lighter with steel. You'll need to open your wallet and buy a titanium one.

By design, it looks big.  I think Op is wanting something different than birdcage, but light.  Smith is heavy.  I have one

I have one on my 18" MA-TEN build.  As heavy as .308 AR's are by nature, 4oz. on the barrel is hardly noticeable.  The FH they make for 5.56 rifles is about 3oz.  1 oz. more on a rifle that will end up weighing 9~10 lbs. anyway is not a big deal.  Don't worry about it, the rifle will balance just fine.
