I have an issue that I have never ran into...

I have a MA-Ten with a Ranier Arms barrel and bolt, spikes lower parts kit,

The issue is on the second round, its not reseting the hammer back to be able to pull the trigger.

But, it is fully seating the next round, so there is no reason for it not too...

With myself pulling the charging handle just part of the way back, it resets the hammer, even if its not enough to chamber the next round, so again if it can do that then there is no reason why it shouldn't be setting the hammer?

What am I missing here?

Sounds like something is not right with the disconnector. If you have a standard trigger, try this (all rules about making sure the weapon is unloaded, etc apply of course): pull the charging handle while holding the trigger in the fired position. Let the bolt drop and then slowly release the trigger. You should be able to hear/feel when the hammer drops from the disconnector to the trigger. If the test is successful, the hammer will be in the ready to fire position. If the disconnector did not catch the hammer, the hammer will have followed the bolt home. If the disconnector did not catch the hammer DO NOT shoot that rifle until it is fixed, there is a chance it will fire a burst instead of a single round. Check to make sure the disconnector spring is installed correctly (wide end down) or at all. If the spring is installed correctly, the disconnector or hammer may be out of spec and need to be replaced. Beyond that I'm sure someone who knows a lot more will be along to advise you soon.

Thanks for the info, I will try that test.

Whats getting me it, that when I manually do it it passes the function test, but when firing it doesn't.

I originally noticed that there was a bur on the feed ramps of the barrel extenstion, and there is no feed ramps on the MA-Ten receiver.  I knew that shouldn't be causing the trigger issue, but it was damaging the brass and the bullet tip.  A few mins with the dremel took care of that, but the trigger issue is still my main issue.

If you put one round in the mag does the bolt hold open on the empty mag?  Is the carrier going far enough back to reset the trigger?

Yes, it will hold the bolt back, and yes the bolt is coming completely back since it is properly loading the next round, just not resetting the hammer to the fire position.

I can tell right away since I can not put the rifle on safe with the hammer in the wrong position.

If the disconnector is working properly, the bolt should not need to travel all the way back to cock the hammer. If the bolt is making it far enough to strip an new round from the magazine then it is definitely moving far enough to cock the hammer.

The reason it only does this when you fire it is because you still have the trigger depressed when the rifle cycles. The disconnector is not engaging and the hammer is "following" the BCG when it chambers a new round. When you function check the rifle you do not have the trigger depressed, that is why it is checking out OK. Something is FUBAR with the disconnector, make sure the disconnect spring is 1. the right spring 2. the larger end of the spring is in the trigger. This should solve the problem unless the disconnector is out of spec. Hope this helps.

Everything is working great, the disconnector spring was out of spec, replaced it and we are good to go.

Thanks for the help!
