I am going to start acquiring the parts to build a long range upper.  I have pretty much decided to do a .243 with a fast twist, but part of me wants to do a .260.  So I was wondering what kind of velocities are you guys getting with the 120-123 grn pills?  I have found lots of velocity figures for bolt guns, but not much for  the ARs.

I wouldn't think there would be much difference between bolt guns and the AR type with equal bbl lengths using identical loads.

yeah some velocity is lost in the gas pressure operating the bolt cycling.  I am also interested to see if anyone has ever tried to run an Ackley Improved cartridge in a .308 AR?

Some pressure could be lost but it should be minimal. DPMS etc may have data on velocities in the AR's in those calibers.

I have 260's in both DPMS AR and GA Precision bolt rifles and there is no real difference in them . The ar is 24" and the bolt is 25". The bolt gun is faster by 20 to 40 fp depending upon load and bulle..Both are fast twist barrels designed for the 140 gr bullets.

What kind of velocities are you getting with the 140's?

With the 140gr SMK and AMAX just over 2800 fps. The lighter bullets 120 AMAX is 2930 fps.
