With the introduction of 6.5 Creedmoor and 260 Remington is the 7mm-08 a good choice.  I know Black Hole Weaponry sells barrels and Remington sells the R-25 chambered in 7mm-08 but it looks like the gap between 243 and 308 is covered more effectively by the 6.5 caliber offerings or am I missing something?

7mm-08 is a great round capable of firing heavier weight bullets than the 6.5's. I guess it depends what you are going to use it for. The 7mm can go head to head with the 6.5's as a match cartridge as it has a great selection of high BC bullets, and it's heavier weight hunting bullets make it more suited for medium and large game. It also has the advantage as the 260 does of being able to easily neck down plentiful 308 match brass to use.

Ive been thinking the same thing. My dad has a Browning BLR carbine and Ive seen thatv little 7mm08 take everthing from elk to deer. his buddie used it this year and tagged out a nice 4x4 muley at about 300yds with a single shot. nice rifle, nice cartridge. I like it more than the 260 for use of hunting.

You are not going to beat the 6.5 in a gas gun... against paper.

EDIT: The above was for AR10 variants and long distance.
The 6mm rules the AR15 size gas guns.

Going to have one of my AR-10Ts fitted with a Bartlein by G.A. Precision
in 6.5 Creedmoor.  The insides of my Gen II mags measure 2.885".

BTW, I adore the 7mm-08.

Good round although I never had a AR10 in 7mm-08.
Had a bolt gun.
162 amaxes are great bullets and cheap.

Make sure to get a 9 twist to shoot long bullets

Tthat sounds like way too much of a good thing Dave, you should probably just give me that one when it's done

I have an acquaintence who has a 7mm-08 bolt gun. I tried to talk him out of it. However he presented me with very convincing arguments regarding the pro's of the 7mm-08...flatter trajector and less recoil, these I expected, however something he mentioned that I had not considered is he claims that it gets moderately better penetration and retained energies due to better sectional density and higher BC.

So, he got one and he loves it.
