Started off as a 20" with a big scope, A2 stock. Was a big fat pig but shot well with 168's.
Also that round hunk of ugly on the left side of the receiver had to go. Thanks to Adam at Ballistic Advantage for adding some flats to the profile of the receiver. Thanks to Gus Nordgren for the anodizing. Not sure why it looks like a color mis-match in the pics as its not noticeable in person. And again thanks to Adam for the Douglas Precision blank he turned this barrel from. 13.7" w/perm 7.62 QD FH. 16.1" OAL I'm not decided on glass yet, the TA31 is off another rifle. Should be fun to shoot tomorrow! Here are a few specs: Douglas XX Barrel 13.7" Carbine Gas Chromoly barrel bead blasted then treated with Johnsons Paste Wax. (a little trick I learned from another barrel maker- barrel will not rust) Mod 4 Gunfighter on the way DPMS BCG w/Extractor upgrade JP V-TAC Rifle Rail with Top Rail Kit LaRue Gas Block YHM 7.62 QD FH Spike's Nickel Boron FCG with JP low power spring kit (lights off my hand loads fine) DPMS Carbine Buffer w/ powder tungsten inside . AR10 Car Buffer Spring with 3 coils cut off to allow bolt catch to operate. Set Screw for takedown spring to allow MIAD grip to be used KNS pin set Armalite Ambi Selector Norgren Ambi Mag Release (I'm a lefty) Magpul BUIS, MIAD, P-Mag and UBR with extended buttpad all from AJ at Spike's. http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/ww254/Gardner37/DSC_0902.jpg http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/ww254/Gardner37/DSC_0713.jpg Now with the Troy rail. I had Adam cut about an inch off the rail to get it behind the YHM QD mount. http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/ww254/Gardner37/DSC_0974.jpg http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/ww254/Gardner37/DSC_0967-1.jpg |

Well its gonna change again. I just ordered a Troy Rail for it. I'm gonna have to have the rail shortened by an inch or so. Adam at BA will do it for me. So the VTAC/rails will be on the EE shortly. I'll post a new pic when its done. How did you get your JP handguard on and off...? Did you skip the red Loctite on the outer nut? Thanks. |

I'll post some pics in the morning. Adam just got the rail back to me today. Took 1" off and it looks good. I'm gonna mount it up tonight, shoot it in the morning and take some pics. It is unfortunately gonna gain some weight though. That V-Tac rail was really light.
As far as the receiver we didn't take off much, just enough to get rid of the bulbous right side. There is plenty to material to work with, its not critical. |

Barrel came from Adam at Ballistic Advantage in Apopka, Fla.
Great guy, Killer work! I've had a 9mm, .223 , 6.8 and now a .308 barrel custom made by him. All are great shooters. He makes your barrel from a quality blank (he only uses top tier blanks) to the exact specs you want. I wanted a 16.1" OAL w /the YHM Mount, H-Bar profile, bead blasted and a small gas port. Lastly pin and weld the QD mount. Turns out the barrel it self is 13.7" and 16.1" OAL. He does the work right and in a timely manner. He's doing some really nice 5.45 barrels right now. Melonite coated inside and out (along with the bolt) to stop the corrosive ammo from doing any damage. Very tempted to try one out. I know it sounds like an ad for Ballistic Advantage but after getting many barrels this way, it is so much more satisfying knowing you are getting just what you want. And the shocker is it does not cost any more(often less) than a good factory barrel. I'll never buy a factory barrel again. |

Yep MA-TEN is on the way.
I know its a little strange but I sold some things and the timing of finding one actually IN STOCK prompted me to pull the trigger on the Mega. I need to raise a little cash and this core was an easy sell. T&A Armory has 3 left in stock. Not listed on the website, you gotta call. Good dudes. |

I wanna build a fluted Leonidas-based 12.5 this spring. If I do it now, 2 things will happen: 1. I will have a 308 SBR lower to have a $hitload of fun with 3 months from now. 2. Promptly after finding out, my wife will chop my balls off in my sleep, or worse. I can still shoot SBR's without balls, however. Tempting. |

I just took the upper receiver over to Adam at BA and asked if he could put some flats in it. He looked at me at little funny but said no problem. Price was reasonable too.
My Uncle owns a anodizing business in West Palm Beach so I sent it down there to have a new dip of Type 2. I was happy with the results. Its been done before. Some of the DPMS Factory shooters have done this to their competition rifles. The V-Tac is super light and has the perfect diameter for a comfortable hand grip. The top rail is an extra $75 though! I just got tired of that rifle's configuration and the Troy was on sale at some obscure outdoor wear website. The Troy is heavy and wider than it needs to be. I like the DD Lite rails as far as width and comfort, I have 4 of them on different 5.56 rifles but the price is steep and I hear that the AR10 series is not as thin as the AR15 series rail. I have never seen one so i don't really know. I'm always messing with things trying to get them eventually exactly how I want them. The EE is a great thing!
