Has anyone done this? Put together a short .308 pattern AR in .358 Winchester?

This seems like it would work really well, except for maybe feeding issues, due to the larger bullet diameter.

I like the idea too... but haven't had a chance to check into it any further than that.

It's been done.  I cannot recall who but it has been done and it worked very well with normal .308 mags IIRC.  I and about a thousand other Indiana people have done .358 WSSMs for meeting deer hunting requirements.  My own .358 HDH, my version of the .358 WSSM, throws a 225 gr. at 2290 fps and a 180 at 2500 fps while the 200 gr. come in at about 2400 fps.  Not quite to .358 Winny but plenty good enough for the Indiana whitetails.  They feed fine out of the mag as long as you do not load more than 4 in the mag.  Even with the .300 RSAUM follower four is the limit for reliable feedings so there is no reason to spend $20 for that follower since the standard LR-308 mag and follower does just fine up to 4 rounds.

While these have not been SBRs that I have heard about if it can be done in standard length barrels there is no reason it would not work in an SBR.

IIRC it was AR15barrels.com that had them listed on his website.  Randall used to have quite a following on Arfcom.....not sure if he is still doing business or not.

funny you should ask ... I just received word my 358win is finished (goodnews)
I ordered an upper from, http://www.ar-10-rifles.com/index.php ,

2 problems though !. I'm out of town for the next 5 weeks and can't get it :-(
and second I'm looking for a Daniel defense rail system to put on it. anyone
know of one in-stock anywhere (DPMS version) ???

I'm building it based on the SI Defence upper/lower that uses G3 mags.

I was told it shoot great (test firing) so in about 5 weeks I'll have it in my hot
little hands ..  then the loading begins ...

pic's to follow (in 5 weeks)

I was just gonna mention these guys. They make a .450 Marlin upper that I've been interested in.

a little closer

http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q318/H_Talon/zombieshooter2.jpg

and the test target they did..

http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q318/H_Talon/holes.jpg

and I have to admit it has a 20" barrel not a SBR but here in CA. A SBR would get
in a 10 X 10 room with a room mate named Bubba :-)

I won't get to shoot it for a while :-( I have to catch up on work stuff ...
