How can you identify the maker of an upper? It's not marked anywhere that I can see with any obvious signs. There is a small mark that looks like an "H" that is narrow at the top and wider at the bottom with a triangle above it. Other than that I don't see anything.
It's a 5.45 upper with an American flag on the rear portion of the top of the receiver by the charging handle. |

There doesn't appear to be any barrel markings on it. It has a free float YHM rail on it, and I looked as far as I could see everywhere on the barrel and didn't see anything at all.
Hell now I'm scared lol, I was told it was a 5.45. It came with a different bolt too, so I figured it was. |
| From your description, I'd bet that the upper receiver was a stripped receiver from Aero Precision in Tacoma Wahington. They frequently put an American flang on the top of the uppers they make for certain dealers. (look them up on Gunbroker.) Also, from your description of the total lack of markings on the barrel, I'd bet that the entire upper is a home built. (Nothing bad about that if it has been put together by someone who knows what they are doing and purchased good parts.) However, if you're now uncertain about it's caliber, I'd take it to a good AR smith and have it thoroughly checked out before I shot it. |
