I just started looking and I'm wanting an AR style .308.
I would like 16-18" barrel with flash hider/muzzle brake. I like the traditional look, dust cover/forward assist.
Railed to put a scope (millet is in my budget, maybe leupold later), good rings, bi-pod and light (for pig hunting)
I like the magpul .308 mags that just came out, just not sure which rifles use them.
Would like the keep the rifle cost around $1,000-$1,500.
Ideas or is this just a dream, lol, thanks

You could buy this Armalite AR-10A4CF with green furniture or the BCF with black furniture then add a rail forend like the E-1 from Superior Weapons Systems.  I just installed one on my 20".

From the .308 FAQ tacked above...

"Magazines

There are primarily two magazines styles for the .308 rifles, the original Armalite-Fairchild magazines used in the original AR-10s, then picked up by the KAC SR-25 (henceforth called the SR-25 Type) and the Modern Armalite AR-10 type which is a modified M-14 magazine. It should be pointed out RRA (and formerly Bushmaster) make rifles that use FAL magazines, and CMMG has a lower which uses G3 magazines.

Armalite AR-10 type (used by Armalite, Noveske, Eagle Arms, Georgia Precision; capacities: 5, 10, 20, 25)

SR-25 Type (used by DPMS, KAC, LaRue, POF, LWRC, JP Rifles, 1950s Armalites, Remington, Fulton-Armory; capacities: 4, 10, 19, 20)

FAL Magzines (Metric or Inch pattern; used by Bushmaster, RRA; capacities: 5, 10, 20, 30)

G3 Magazines (CMMG .308 Lower)"

(#1) I personally went with a Fulton Armory Titan as I had a custom build done.
(#2) Magazine versatility with the majority of the other top notch builders & rifles...I purchased mine before Magpul even came out with their .308 Pmag - so this was a definite bonus.

my $0.02

I just shot a DPMS AP4 16" today.Stock trigger....Gone! Replaced with RRA NM 2 stage.Butt stock.. gone. MagPul ACS. That rifle shot just under 1 MOA at 100 yards with a load pulled out of the air. At 400 yards an 8" steel swinger got hit 8 of 10 shots and one miss was to adjust the scope.I'm pretty surprised how well it shoots, better than I expected it to for sure.I would venture to guess, if you had one you would like it.

Just finished this over the weekend...

and shot these two groups tonight with irons at 50 yards using Australian surplus... still debating optics...

PMAGs would be nice, but not a deal breaker for me...

Thanks!

Eagle Arms/Armalite lower
Armalite AR10 upper and BCG
RRA LPK (single stage trigger)
Noveske 18" barrel
SWS E1 Rail
Smith Vortex
PRI Gasbuster
Troy BUIS
Magpul MIAD and trigger guard
Colt A2 stock and Receiver Extension with Armalite rifle buffer and spring

I am very happy with the build and accuracy, and while not a lot of rounds through it, about 120 this weekend, its been flawless and runs very smooth.

I would highly recommend that you give the AR10 some consideration.

I have two DPMS LR308, one 18" one 24".  With a Bill Springfield trigger job, they are GREAT.  Highly recommended.  Shoot Fed GMM 168 at 600y better than I shoot.

I have dpms lr308 ap4 with the quad rail.  shoots moa with hornady 168 amax.  It's not to fond of 147 mil stuff.  I replaced the trigger with a rra 2 stage and that made a hell of a lot of difference.  With the quad rail you could mount what ever you want on it.  No problems with it at all and the Pmags are cheap but work the best.  The only ammo problem i had was hornady superformance ammo........don't use it!  overpressure big time even though they say its fine.  blown primer everytime.
