Hello all,

I have two iron ridge l308 owers (dpms style) and I'm tired of waiting for their uppers.  I have searched the web and have decided about the only options I have are fulton or dpms.

Are there any other manufactors I should consider?  Want to keep these below $1500.

If not, out of the two which one is better?

1.  Wait another year for Iron Ridge

2.  Wait a year for DPMS

3.  Wait more than a year for Fulton Armory

4.  Cut your losses, sell both lowers and put the funds toward an Armalite, OBR, REPER etc.

There are lots of parts out there for DPMS style.. you can build your own pretty easy too..

Don't know where the wait comes from unless you buy it direct from the manufacturer.. I got everything but the barrel in under a week.. on week 2 for the barrel, but they said ahead of time it would be a 2-3 week lead time.. which isn't bad for a small shop.

I wouldn't buy a DPMS upper again, due to the flattop rail being lower than everyone elses.. it won't sit level with any other free float quad rail. If I were to do it again, I'd get a matched receiver set from Fulton.. and I'm sure you could get a stripped flattop from them in no time.

I split the difference.  I have a rifle built on the DPMS lower and the Fulton upper, 22 inch Criterion, side cocking, Bennie Cooley comp.  Essentially the upper on the featured UPR.  I love the side cocking and the fact that the height of the upper is standard so the DD lite rail or others will fit if I ever decide to change.  Workmanship is excellent, as is accuracy and reliability.  I think it was money well spent.

My Carbine is a DPMS LR-308 AP4 and it does every thing I expect it to and more.  It does have the newer odd height upper, so it will not line up with any other free float hand guard, but since I don't plan to change, it isn't a big deal.  It is a blast to shoot and functions flawlessly (I run a few drops of CLP in the bolt vent holes every 100 rounds or so) and is more accurate than the operator with open sights.

I paid more for the Fulton upper than the complete DPMS carbine.  I might not be willing to pay that much for a carbine that I expect to abuse more and use harder, and probably replace sooner.  Side cocking on the carbine would be very nice, but I am not sure I want to give up the dust cover for it.

Thanks for the replies guys.  I guess I will start looking at building an upper myself.

I didn't think the wait on a Fulton Armory upper was that long.

I had emailed Larue a few months back and they said I had to get the whole rifle.  maybe I should try them again.

I just re-read  you org. post . The Larue's are the Armilite configuration, not the DPMS configuration , my bad.

Try Fulton Armory.

One can use Armalite barrels on a Dpms upper right?

Fulton Armory will be less than a 4 week wait at the moment.
