...is as polite as I can put it.
First I wind up with a barrel from M1S, that by popular opinion has the wrong twist rate and 'tight or wrong' chamber specs. OK, shit-can it to the spare parts pile while I get a new one that is 'correct'. Found a KT barrel, and we all know how that deal wound up. I now have what I believe is a Shaw, no markings, four groove, no chrome. Now, I hear the SPEC II reamer I have might or might not be machined to the correct dimensions. So, is it possible to check the reamer to make SURE it is correct? No sense in using it if I do not know for sure. If the reamer is right, can it be used to correct the chamber in the M1S and the Shaw barrel? I have no intention to use hot handloads. Two cases of TAP already on hand. ANY help will be appreciated to get me on the road..... |

Because of liability reasons I can't tell you the barrel made by someone else who is now out of business due to barrel problems is OK to shoot.
Tim just posted under Carbine_Man, maybe you can get him to take a look at it. If you have a correct reamer you could improve both barrels. IMO the original problem came when some copper coated(not jacketed) bullets were combined with chambers with a sharp edge at the leade. As Art said the bullets swelled under pressure and the sharp edge shaved a ring off of the bullet and left it in the chamber for the next round that was crimped by this copper ring. They looked like this-
and this is the new thread-link So this ammo isn't the old Extreme bullet so there must be a problem in the chamber or with the barrel in general. edited to make link live and To be on the safe side when you get a new barrel or rifle look at the first 5-10 cases after every shot just to make sure everything is ok to proceede. |
