It seems there is no official 5.45 AR picture thread. I searched and couldn't come up with one, and in the Official Variant Picture Thread subheading 5.45 is not represented, so here we go.
S&W, Model 1, RGuns, Ballistic Advantage, Spikes, Custom one-of-a kind ALL WELCOME!
Here is one of mine:

It's an M&P15R and I had the OEM barrel cut to 14.5, permanently attach a BCM A2X flash hider, added a Midwest Industries MCTAR20 railed free float hand guard, Magpul MIAD grip, ACS stock, ASAP sling plate, and an Aimpoint T-1 micro on the Daniel Defense lower 1/3 cowitness mount.

Yes, I realize how ugly that thing is.

It's an old Alexander Arms ".21 Genghis" upper (which I no longer have) on a purple Cav lower (which I do
).

Maybe you should have thought twice before saying "ALL WELCOME!"

OK, it seems this "official" 5.45 AR thread is off to a good start.
Here is another from my own collection:

On this one,  I started with an S&W M&P15R with the barrel cut to 14.7 and the original A2 flash hider pinned and welded (done by the late Kurt Wala of Kurts Kustom Firearms who passed away last year after an unfortunate motorcycle accident), a Yankee Hill Machine flip up/folding front sight base with the railed bottom clamp, a Midwest Industries MCTAR-20 free float railed hand guard, an Aimpoint CompM4 on a LaRue Tactical mount coupled with an Aimpoint 3X magnifier again in a LaRue Tactical flip to side mount, a Bill Springfield trigger job, and a Magpul MIAD grip, ASAP single point sling mount, and ACS stock. I also install the RRA raised star safety selector on all my rifles because I like the way my thumb hits it to move it back and forth from "SAFE" to " FIRE".

Keep them coming folks! With 5.45x39 ammo still available at .11-15 per round and new players offering barrels, complete rifles, and conversion parts, the 5.45 AR community is alive and well. I know there are more than a few of us who don't mind applying proper cleaning techniques for corrosive ammo and who appreciate the ballistics of the 5.45x39.

will get pictures of both rifles.......but here is a couple snapshots I took after I rebuilt the 11.5" as a POF Piston upper.

Both of the ones I have are custom stainless Lothar Walther barrels from Alexander Arms (back in the day when they did the Ghengis uppers). both are light weight profile. one is 16" and the other is 11.5" in length. carbine gas/piston systems. The 11.5" was converted to the POF Piston system.

will add more pictures later...........

Well, What I got is nothing special, S&W 5.45 upper, S&W lower I built up from the ground, with a DD trigger group, and all the other Magpul goodies.  Got a larue mount, holding a Vortex strikefire, that has never let me down yet!

Also added a nice little touch, in the way of the gadsden engraved ejection port cover

I'll admit, it's a work in progress, to what i don't know.  It's work is on hold while i save up for a M1A.

I haven't shot it in a while, guess i need to get to the range

S&W DI chopped to 10.5/11 something.  Tried to stick on an AA piston kit, not good results.  DI runs like a champ.

Wipe it down with alcohol and a lint free rag (twice, to make sure you get it all), let it dry, paint the base coat (couple of fairly light layers), let it dry, tear the blue paint masking tape into little jagged uneven strips and put them here and there on the rifle, paint the second color (again, a couple of light layers) and when it dries start peeling the tape off.

If I decide to change it some carb cleaner and tooth brush will strip the paint right off it (at least it did the one time I tried it on another rifle).

S&W MP15R. Had the bolt and carrier hard chromed by Metaloy––-cleanup is a snap! Only shoot Wolf non-corrosive through it. Has an MGI adjustable gas tube.

Oly 5.45 16" upper, Aero Precison lower. Picked up 4 tins of that russian surplus ammo for cheap, 6 mags and a Primary Arms red dot. Nice, cheap plinker that I will also use for classes.

I had a lot of problems with it at first. Once I got the hammer spring in correctly, It's been 100%.

Here's one of my 3.  I actually call it an AR-74.

The other two are a stock S&W M&P15R with an AK IronDot, no pics yet, and a custom A1 Upper with an AK-74 style on it that is currently back at the barrel guy because of keyholing issues.  The custom A1 goes on a black Cavalry Arms Mk2 lower.

Link of it running in full auto  This was when I was using the AR-47 lower as pictured.

Another video link to an 8" upper running in full auto This is using the MGI lower with their AK-74 magwell.  Running unmodified 45 round Bulgarian mags in both vids and modified Bulgarian chrome lined AK-74 barrels.

M&P15R upper on this one.  Only problems I've had were when I tried a standard hammer spring and had some light primer strikes.  I love this thing.  It now has an Accupoint TR21 and Magpul buis on it, even more fun in that configuration.  I have another one of these uppers I'm trying to decide on how to set up...maybe chop it down and SBR it.

A pair of 11" uppers in both 7.62 and 5.45 milimeters.  Both are made with Bulgarian AK barrels from K-Var adapted to the AR15.

Troy battle sights, Magpul MIAD, ASAP, BAD, and ACS stock, and a Trijicon TA33G-H round out the build.

wow, talk about a blast from the past!  I was thinking about those lowers today when I saw somebody was having an issue, and I know there were a few of us who had bought some of these critters. I remembered somebody (You?) was going with a 5.45 build, hehe. I was still waiting on the barrels from Marty at the time, So I ended up selling my lower to somebody else. I wonder how many of these things are still around?

Working on my first 5.45 AR build right now, just waiting on some parts.  Using a Model 1 Sales 5.45 Barrel, and am hoping to get a Osprey Defense Piston system working with it.

Will post pics in a few weeks when it's complete.

That Eotech is scary man!

Is that some early iteration of the Eotech HWS that we know today?

Or am I way off, maybe it is not even an Eotech?

Thanks, I wasn't even aware of Citadel barrels and their barrel prices are incredible.

In all honesty, that is one of the best looking rifles I have seen in a long time. I'd be curious to hear how the 5.45 stainless barrel shoots. Keep us posted.
