Alright I'm working on a 6.5 Grendel build, either have or decided on most of the parts already.  TI Billet lower, MagPul PRS, Troy 13" TRX Extreme, ASA Side charger upper, etc.  What I can't decide on is the barrel.  I was leaning toward a 24", but from looking at ballistic charts, it doesn't look like the 24" gains that much over the 20".  So, question is, which would you go with, 20" or 24".  Or something completely different and why?

What ranges do you plan to shoot yours at?

I bought a 16" and a 24", for different types of shooting.

Longest range I have access to now is just shy of 1,000m.

I'd build a 20 inch gun.......why build a gun specifically for only 5% or 10% of your shooting?

personally i wish AA offered the 19.5 inch barrel/bolt as a combo.  i settled for the 18 incher.

Unless it is strictly a benchrest gun I'd go 18-20".  You'll be just as accurate at that range with only a slight velocity loss and have a much more controllable weapon for hunting, SHTF, etc.

Similar thread that I had. http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=121&t=473277

I am looking at going with the 22" CSS barrel.

I went with a 18". I don't loose much to the 20-22" class but still have a shorter, faster handling rifle. Its a good all around length.
