I had the chance to shoot an ap4 yesterday and wanted to know if the rifles are built to last and good quality.  I know very little about ar's.  For a 308 I thought it had very little recoil as well.  I was thinking about getting one.  So let me hear thoughts and opinions.  Thanks

I guess it all depends of how often you will use it. .308 ammunition can get expensive if you take it to the range once a week.  If you dont plan on using it all the time, the good thing about the rifle is it already comes with iron sights. Good camp rifile IMO. I would upgrade the trigger to a DPMS 2 stage for this rife.

I have AP4 for a while and realy like it.  I have had no issues at all.  It shoots accurate and reliable. It is not a plinker,  the cost will make you shoot better to make them count.  I reload Mil brass with Rem 180gr core-loks and they are accurate.  I use it for hogs and anything bigger.  I like to use it when I need a 200yd plus stopper.

I picked one up for deer hunting in the woods with my in-laws (they do deer drives where a looooong shot is 100 yards).  After carrying it for a week, I have to say that it is the most comfortable rifle I have ever carried.  You can carry it at the ready across your chest without getting fatigued.  If you feel like letting it hang by your side (holding it by the grip), you don't have to worry about the barrel bumping the ground.  It is very steady and tracks great.  You can follow moving targets with ease, just as you would a shotgun (if you have a red-dot).

I have run 168 AMaxs and 180 grain Hornadys with great results.  I would recommend sending the barrel to ADCO to have the barrel turned down.  The gun does need a diet.  I have the DPMS carbon fiber handguard.  That helps a little, but turning the barrel down would shave another pound off.

I've had mine over a year now, lot of range time.  I put a quad rail and a Millet DMS on it.  Shoots like a dream.

I've had an AP4 for about 4 months now.  I'm a definite fan.  I put a drop-in Timney trigger (3.5lbs), put a rifle-length rail/low-profile gas block on it, and put a PRI gas-buster charging handle on.  Other than that, she's stock.  Very nice shooter.  First 100 rounds (break-in period) I had some double-feeds, FTEs, and so-on.  Had one particularly bad case of a round getting stuck out of battery in the chamber.  Not entirely sure what happened there.  Had to let someone with greater knowledge than I extract it.  Involved a rubber mallet and the charging handle *shudder*.  Anyway, 500 rounds down the tube and it hasn't had a single problem since the 78th round.  It really likes the PRVI 168grain BTHP.  Nice little load for much lower price than the Federal Gold Medal Match equivalent.  Also likes the 168grain Hornady TAP.  I used those for a bit of deer culling (had some specimens with some unfortunate antler deformities on my ranch that needed to be excised) and for a coyote, and the TAPs are the best 1-shot-drop round I've ever seen in .308.  I keep a mag loaded in my bag with 200grain DoubleTap .308s (accubond) for if/when I want to get a little more energy down range.

My "other AR" is a JP Enterprises JP-15 chambered in 6.5 Grendel (20" heavy profile barrel).  I can tell you that the AP4 is not as polished as the JP, but then again it came in at about 1/3 the price.  With that said, however, the AP4 seems every bit as sturdy as the JP, and both had the same teething during break-in.  Recoil is surprisingly not significantly heavier on the AP4––but that's just my subjective impression.  Also, the 16" barrel of the AP4 means that it's nearly as light as the JP-15 with the heavier barrel.  Not quite, but almost.  I love both rifles, but between the two, the AP4 is always with me; with an eotech and a flip-to-side 4x magnifier, she's good from 25 yards to 600 yards.  I can't ask for much more than that.

As a side note, had I it to do over again, I'd reconsider the Grendel purchase.  I love the cartridge in theory––but the ammunition availability situation is just ridiculous.  There's NO excuse for there being a shortage of 6.5 rounds when 6.8 rounds are widely available on the market.  Hopefully Hornady can rectify the situation, but I have trouble finding their more popular loads these days, too.

In short, the AP4 is a great weapon.  Don't regret the purchase a bit.

What?????  are you asking if you can stick a 6.5 grendel cartridge in a 6.8 spc rifle? and what does that have to do with ap4's.
