I'm looking into getting a upper in this caliber. But i would like to know from the people that have shot this round on how it performs on white tail mule deer and elk. And i would like to know what range these animals were taken. I do have a 6.8spc, but looking to see if there is any advantages in getting a 25wssm.  I have been searching alittle online about this round some say it's a barrel burner, and after they say such things they end with "but i don't own one, nor have a shot one". so i'm looking for people that own/shot with this round.

thank you.

The closest I can get to that is my 243 WSSM, which is extremely accurate and very hard hitting...but I have not used it to harvest any animals as yet.  It's quite a bit heavier/longer barrel combo (not that I mind), so I usually stick to one of my 6.8s...

I had a 25 WSSM. Its hard hitting alright, but about 150 fps or so under a 25-06.

If the 25wssm is totally maxed out with a 115 gr TSX bullet you can get around 3050 fps
and 1200 fpe out to about 350 yards.

IMO

Perfect for white tails
Okay for mule deer with barnes bullets
I would use a bigger round for Elk or maybe the 30 OSSM but thats just me.
It will kill an elk, but I would want something bigger.
Then again an Elk for me for now would be once in a life time so...

A 338 RCM on an AR10 would be perfect for elk, bear, Buff.

The 115 Accubond would take elk if you can pick your shots (clean heart or spine)and hold it to 300-350yds.
There just isn't enough power there to reach the heart by going through the ham bone.
once in a lifetime elk hunt? 338 with 185 TSXs

edited, I HAD a 25wssm but wildcatted it to a .338 ARSM

thank you for the replies. i might be moving out west, and was looking into another upper for my Ar15 lower, just having a hard time finding a upper one for white tail through elk.

this might be something worth checking out ... I have one of the .300-OSSM GameStalkers on order

Three bullets were tested for standardization; a 110 grain, 115 grain, and a 150 grain. Here are the results:

110 grain Hornady V-Max
Powder 50 gr. H735
Ave. pressure, 60,300 psi
Ave Muzzle Velocity 3480 fps

115 grain (solid brass with plastic tip: Barnes?, not sure, details not provided)
Powder 48 gr. H735
Ave. PSI 55,700
Ave Muzzle velocity 3358 fps

150 gr. (bullet unknown at this point)
Powder IMR8208XBR (new powder)
Powder charge (varied from 45-51 gr.)
Ave. PSI 56,6000
Ave. Muzzle Velocity 3043 fps

Left to right; 243WSSM, 25WSSM, and the 300-OSSM.

For elk forget the 25 WSSM and get a 300 OSSM.
Basically a 30-06 in an ar15 package.

Load up some 110 gr Vmaxes or 110 gr TSX bullets at 3500 for plinking or
some tipped 130 TTSX at 3200 or the 150 gr tipped TTSX at 3000 for mostly any game.

The 180 gr barnes MRX at 2800 should be good medicine for mostly any Elk or bear.

Hawk 220 gr round tip at 2550 would be interesting

I have a 25 WSSM on order from Olympic since last February and I am due to get it within the next month or so. I hope to get it before the end of the hunting season here in NY but not looking so great for that to happen

I've been hunting with a 25WSSM for 3-years now! this is my 09 Deer Season ... Whitetail

I was really looking at the 25wssm as I really like the 25-06 on deer and whitetail.  I used a 223 last year here in MN on whitetail and got 3 bucks on opening day ranging from small fork to 205 dressed 8pt.  Ordered 2 243wssms from dtech after lots of thought, sold my lr260, found a prebuilt dtech243wssm.  I wasn't able to hunt this weekend due to back surgery complications but my dad took the one 243wssm that is here so far and got a nice 4pt budk this morning.  Said it was textbook performance by the 90 scirocco and the rifle helped make the shot smooth and fast with no need for a follow up, but lots of time.  Sounded like a 65yr old kid when he called me at lunch.  Don't sell the 243 short, it can outrun a full sized 243win with nearly all bullet weights and you have every bullet within reason readily available.

my 25WSSM is a Dtech built UR, and it has his trademark™ integral compensator too; it really makes a big difference IF? a follow up shot is necessary; but so far they have all been “drop shots”

I've had a 25 WSSM upper on order with DTech since 1st week of December. Since he bascially forgot about my order (which is why I don't have it yet) I think I'll switch gears to .30 cal. That's more what I wanted anyway to keep the number of calibers to a managable level.
