Why are there not very many people on here building a 6x45? I have a extra broughton 1-14 barrel I think I might turn down and chamber for my ar. It will finish out at 20" .936 bull barrel and should shoot the 75 gr bullets nicely. What do you guys think?

Mas,

I like it, and am a fan of the 6x45.  It will likley remain a very niche cartridge with the advent of the 6.8 and other rounds that yield a little better "giddy-up".  If you like the ability to use plentiful 556 brass, like using 556 mags, and can live with bullet weights that top out in the 80-90 range, then it is a great round.  You can shoot slightly heavier bullets, but you really start crowding powder space and top velocities.  The 85 TSX has really helped (imho) the functionality of the round.

For me it is my antelope cartridge, and has more than enough performance to be so.  It would also be a dandy whitetail round if I ever hunted them, and it would be a great platform to get younger hunters into the AR hunting world if you so desire.

Bear,
The main reason I am going to build it is I have tons of brass, powder, and the barrel. I think Im going to use it for hogs, coyotes, deer, and maybe even the PDogs! Your right its not the fastest thing out there but Im sure those animals wont be able to tell. If this build works out good I am going to build a 20 practical for the same reasons! I love have a reason to build a new rifle!
Thanks for your reply

Twist may be a bit slow. Whats the velocity  people are getting from these with 75gr bullets?

ETA: Played with Quickload a little bit and looks like they are going around 2800fps so a
1-10 Twist would better.

I most people tell me they shoot around 2800-2900 fps with the 75 grs, which makes since because it should shoot a little faster than a 75 gr 5.56. Its speeds are about the same as a 6ppc just not the short fat case. I know the 6ppc likes the 58-75 grs in the 1-14 and so does the 6x47 which is a little faster. The 1-14 might be a little slow but I am going to try 58 to 75 and see what works best and I've been told that the barrel life is really good.

ETA: MGP I wish the barrel was a bit faster since most I have seen are built on 1-12 but this was a friend’s 6mm ppc barrel I got really cheap. This will also be my first chamber to cut on my lathe and my first ar15 build so it will be a learning experience for sure!

Marty at TeppoJutsu built mine, but I do not know if he is taking a new orders.  Wouldn't hurt to drop him a note.  These threads do pop up up every couple of months, so there should be some info if you dig a bit.

I havent said too much about this round but i have a wildcat That i did that im waiting on the brass to be made so i cant comment on how it will perform but it will be about the came case capacity as the 6ppc but it uses standard 6.8 bolts and mags but you can load 100 gr bullets from this round and still get them to load in the mag.The rifle has ben
built for months now but as soon as i get the brass i will report how this round works. This one will nice there will be brass
ready to load for it Thanks Mike
