To build an AR rifle in .243 can you use an AR-15 lower & upper or does it require a special lower/upper? What type of magazines would you use and where can they be purchased?

.243 ARs are built on the same platforms as .308 ARs.

Due to the similarity of the two cases I suspect they use the .308 mags as well with little or no modification, but I have no experience with them and that's just a guess.

ETA: Looks like the DPMSs use the same mags:  http://www.dpmsinc.com/store/products/?prod=1642&cat=1828

You can do a 243 short mag on the 556 lower.

I think Olympic makes them..

You've heard correctly. 6.5 Grendel is AR15 lower, 6.5 Creedmore is a 308 lower. The Creedmore strikes me as a solution looking for a problem. I would take a 260 Remington over one. That is however just my opinion. None the less it is a great round from what I've read.

You'll need an AR-10 or other 308 pattern upper/lower.  .243 is just a necked down 308 anyway.  Most of the manufacturers that offer 308 black rifles have variants in 243.  Between DPMS and Remington, there are rifles available in 308, 243, 7mm-08, 260 Remington, and 338 Federal.

You can stay on the small chasis and get all kinds of wonderful calibers from DTECH in the wssm and wssm wildcat line.  I have 2 in the 243wssm ordered.  Looking at all of the info a 243wssm will out run a 243win and you can save some$$ on the rifle parts and accessories.

its a very long wait right now from what i can tell from posts on Predator Masters.  I seem to remember 1 guy waiting 10 months, but I could be mistaken.  Either way you won't see if for a couple of months but everything i have heard says he is the guy to get a wssm upper from.
