Well in the AR15 platform, the 6.5 has the better Long Range possibilities. When stepping up to a AR-10 / 308 AR platform, the 260 would be my choice. To compare 6.8 to 308 is not really possible since they are in different platforms. |

308 wins power and range hands down. But true, its not a fair comparison. A 308 is a lot of fun to shoot, can kill anything in North America, reach 1000k. Also, its popular enough that ammo, brass and bullets are always going to be easier to find than 6.x
Get a 308 and get into reloading. If you want more power and range: 338 Lapua, then 50BMG and so on... |

I already erload and I was thinking of building something for long range. But that means I need to sell my AR lower and get a new one for 308? If you are favoring long range, and want to keep your existing lower, there really isn't anything that comes close to the 6.5 Grendel. Almost ballistically identical to the .308 but less recoil, weight, ammo availability, barrel availability, etc........ More and more companies are embracing the round, so maybe someday parts and ammo availability will catch up to demand - I hope |

Hell, they all reach about 2 miles in all honesty, but I don't think you could hit what you're aiming at
Seriously, the .277" diameter bullets are as easy to find as the .308", but the 6.8 SPC was not meant to compete with the .308/762x51 NATO. 6.8 SPC was meant as a replacement/supplement/what have you to the 5.56 NATO. If you want excellent all around performance, go for the .308 and load up some 155gr Lapua bullets. They're loads of fun... |
