| Thinking about building a precision oriented semi 308 to shoot long distance with. Would the DPMS or the POF make a better lower reciever to start with? Is the answer the same for the upper? |

My POF 20" SPR 308 with a Mike Rock 5R barrel is sub-MOA out to 600 yards (the furthest I have shot it) with FGMM 168gr loads and my handloads. The quality and reliabiliity of the POF rifles is second to none, but the price and the wait time right now are not the greatest. Unless you can find one through a dealer that is currently in stock, or GunBroker, and you are willing to pay close to $3k for one NIB, you'll have a hard time getting one. If you order direct from POF (or have your dealer order direct), you'll owe a 50% deposit up front and have a wait of up to a year or so. You'll hear wildly varying opinions on the wait time, but the concensus seems to be about that long. POF is doing much better with cracking out these and other rifles in larger volume, but they have a large backorder list that they have to complete.
If you have the money and are looking for an outstanding rifle, almost bolt gun accurate, with impressive reliability/durability...look no further than the POF!! |

I don't think the lower is going to make a difference at all. The Trigger and Barrel are what make a gun shoot accurately. +1000 Just cause its got someones name on the lower does not make it shoot well. I am sure most any gun you drop a Mike Rock 5R into will shoot great. My DPMS with Noveske barrel shoots excellent. Yes DPMS stock triggers are crap. Thats cause anyone who wants to shoot very well will add one of 20 great after market triggers. Really the stock DPMS trigger is just a placeholder in my book. With a good trigger, many stock barreled DPMS 308s will out shoot their owners. |
| I had a DPMS 308B and had to sell it. While I still had it I chagned the trigger to a timney drop in and it shot less than 1/2" at 100 yards using federal GMM or Blackhills match. It was an outstanding rifle and my only complaint was that I sold it. I've noticed now that the prices on DPMS rifle are getting back to where they should be. For just over a grand, you can't go wrong with a DPMS 308. |
