Hi Guys,
After a lot of thought , I have decided that I want an AR in 6.8......now the question is WHICH one. I'm lookin for some advice here on which manufacturer/ best way to go. Primary concern is dependability and I am lookin for something that is "ready to go" with little modifications after purchase....something that is very well put together and doesn't need this staked or that mod. I'm hoping that some of you that have experience with various brands will respond––-NOT trying to start a pissing match over brands just lookin for advice from people that have had their hands on different brands and what seems to perform the best and what doesn't. I have approx. $2,000.00 to spend on rifle with iron sights ( less scope) this is what I CAN spend, just offering an approx. dollar amount to help you with your response. Thanks!! |

Dipper,
You may want to check out http://www.ar15performance.com/ & their Extreme upper. These guys appear to really have done their homework to make the 6.8 everything it should have benn from the beginning. The Extreme upper & any quality lower will allow you to work well within you're budget & thensome. I have one on order & am waiting for the call to send $$$ |

This. All the best points that are needed for a 6.8SPC: DMR chamber, slower twist, M4 feedramps, etc. The two guys who developed this upper have been at the forefront of developing the 6.8SPC to the fullest of its abilities. They understand the 6.8SPC. There are other good uppers out there, but this would be my next upper if I could afford another one.
ETA: Doh! Got beat to it. the Xtreme is what I'm talking aobut, too. |

68forums.com is the place to visit. I see some 68 members have already invited you.
68 Xtreme upper from AR15Performance and Titan Armory is the way to go. They have sold their recent batch, and will take orders for more. Just find your favorite lower receiver and you're set, and well under your budget!. These are 4150 chrome lined barrels, choice of free float handguard, complete bolt/carrier group, assembled and ready to go. If you wanted to really tap into your budget, Noveske has a new spec'd 6.8 barrel that will surely be another outstanding product from them when they catch up on their backorders. |

Guys,
Thanks a lot for your answers ....really appreciated. I'm GLAD I asked my question here. Briefly checked out AR performance and they do look good and the price seems reasonable––-I believe I will place an order!! I'm heading for 68 Forums.com right now!! Thanks again guys, will let you know about my choices and probably will have a few more questions. Ever want your rifle RIGHT NOW?? |
| probably gonna take you some time to get anything. i was looking for another 6.8 upper after selling mine and everyone was backordered for months. as others stated, id go with a 1/11 or 1/10 twist and dmr or spcII chamber so youre not stuck with the usual commercial loads. your standard saami chamber cant handle the pressure of a combat load and the round wont stabilize. kotonics/cadinal makes some good stuff, but theyre outta business and most people arent selling their stuff cuz of homeboy in office so it can be kind of a bitch to find. |

I haven't shot a Stag, but they are 1/11 SPCII which is super nice, but I have shot a Rock River and own a CMMG. Both are MOA guns, better with certain handloads, and both are @$500 uppers, lots a bang for the buck, both are mid-length 16" and I really like the balance of them.
You don't have to go with a custom builder if you don't have the $$$ |

I maintain that for the money, the RRA or Stag 6.8 uppers are the best bang for the buck. They certainly are much more appealing now that they have better chambers and barrels on them! And I know their quality is good to go... Did RRA switch twist rates? Their site still states 1/10. |

They have a 1:11 project, but it's down the road some especially with the demand for parts right now. |

SPC-II and 1:10" twist are good to go with combat loads, so anything greater than that is good news! Stag's SPC-II and 1:11" is probably the one to have for the money...although I'm willing to give the Xtreme upper my money as well... |

What about Leitner-Wise Rifle Company, International? Knesek Guns has several M6A2 rifles in 6.8 for $2375 shipped. I've got an M6A2 in 556 and it's really slick with all the right stuff straight out of the box - well, I put a RRA two-stage match trigger in mine, but you know what I mean! Call Jeremy at Knesek at 479-474-1680 and tell him Matthew sent you - he said he'd treat me nice on the M6A3 that I want if I spread the word on his 6.8s! I don't know why, they are gonna sell without my help, but he's a nice guy! It's no longer Leitner-Weis Rifle Company and hasn't been for over 2 almost 3 years. The name of the company is Land Warfare Resourses Corporation International (LWRCI)!!! |

Hi guys,
Just wanted to say thanks again for all the information. Just got off the phone with Harrison from AR 15 Performance and ordered one of his 6.8 extreme uppers. I have to say, that I have seldom talked to a nicer more informative man in my life.....he took the time to explain everything to me and answered my many questions AND offered great info on things I had not thought of.....it is my opinion that the man "knows his $hit". Now, I am looking for a good lower. Can't wait to get this thing put together!!! Will keep you posted on things as it comes together. Thanks |
