Does anyone know if you can substitute a McFarland AR-10 one piece gas ring for the gas rings in a DPMS LR-308?

So, I tried a Mcfarland AR-10 Gas ring in my DPMS and
it was a no go. When I installed the 1-peice gas ring it
didn't look like it filled the gap in the bolt but the diameter
was good. Just to see how it would fit in the bolt carrier I
slid the bolt in oh so carefull. It puts the same tension on
the bolt but caused play in the bolt in forward to backward
movement.  It seems the gas ring is .010 inches thinner
than the three gas rings put together. Maybe if you are
desprite enough you could use it or make a hybrid by
using one gas ring and cutting about 3/4 of a coil off the
McFarland ring. But I'm not going to be the one to check to
see if it would function as I like my face the way it is.

the macfarland is designed that way fis the same way in an armalite carrier.

all it needs to do is seal the gas not fill the entire gap.

I have one in my DPMS bolt right now.  Its been there for 500+ rounds, and it works great.

I got it from Armalite, and its for AR-10, but works fine.  IIRC Armalite has said their AR-10 would run with the gas rings removed.  The gas ring is not a part which could cause the weapon to blow up in your face.  It either seals enough, and the gun runs –– Or it does not, and you get short stroking.  Thats as exciting as it gets.

I have McFarland rings in 3 AR-15 and my DPMS 308.  Its not that they work better, I just don't like thinking about ring alignment.
