Has anyone had any luck with 110 gr bullets with their LR-308? I found some at a good price and I thought they might make a good varmint load if I can get any accurcy out of them with a 1 and 10 twist barrel. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks

I bought a box thinking the same thing, I have yet to reload them and try.  Its going to be my thanksgiving project, provided I have some down time to try.

I'm interested to hear what you all discover.  I tried some Hornady factory TAP in 110 grn through a medium contour FAL and had lackluster accuracy.  However, that gun wouldn't print small groups with anything I fed it, so the ammo might have been just fine.  FYI, I find that my LR308 prefers Hornady 168 grn Amax.  Shoots that even better than Fed GMM.

i developed a load using the 110g VMAX for my 308. its a bolt gun though- remington 700, custom barrel, 308 win match chamber.

using 49 grains of H335 and a federal 210M primer i got a blistering 3390 fps (blistering for a 308 ). the Hornady TAP load is advertised at 3160fps

100yd zero
200yds -2"
300yds -9"
400yds -22"

hits with over 1000ft/lbs all the way to 450yds. the furthest i shot it was 300yds, and it was 1/2MOA. wind wreaks havoc on these little bullets though.

i like to do the highly scientific "phonebook test" soak 4 thick Dallas phonebooks in the tub overnight. next morning, squeeze out all the excess water and ductape them together. a 1' thick block weighs at least 30lbs. much denser than tissue. the Varmint Slayer round shredded a 3" hole inside the book. the violent framentation of the bullet ripped the ductape and separated the books. you can see how they are bulged in the pic.

I shoot the 110grn V-maxes in my 7.62x39mm bench gun with outstanding accuracy. Loaded to just shy of 2800 fps they hold their accuracy quite well even out to 300meters

I guess that I may just have to try some for my self.  It sounds though it may be worth trying. I will plan on getting box and loading some I will give a range report, it will  probably be after Thanksgiving.  Thanks for the input from everyone.

Got my V-max reloads to get all 4 touching under the size of a dime @ 100 yds with varget.  For some reason I cannot get my photobucket pic to post (1st attempt with that option).

That is excellent. I was hoping to do the same and make a few loads up over Thanksgiving but it didn't happen. After seeing your results I am going to be loading some this week for sure.
