I saw one a few weeks ago that uses standard PS-90 mags but I can't remember for the life of me who makes it.

Also anybody make lowers stamped with 5.7 chmaber?

AMT I think but not the old Arcadia? company.

If not it was some initials of a company.

Hows that for not much help.

yes its a PWA. played with one today at a gun store. didnt even know they existed untill the guy brought it out. wasnt that expensive concidering. weird as heck looking. he said empty brass falls out the mag well. would be killer for lefties.... 5.7 is a TINY round.

I thought I wanted one since I love my 5.7 pistol until I held one the other day.  My local shop has one for $700 with the heavy bbl.  That thing weighs a ton.  I am going to wait to see how the flutted bbl. model feels.  It it is much lighter then I will get one and have the bbl. cut and threaded just in front of the handguard.  That way when I put it on one of my SBR'd lowers with my suppressor, the overall bbl. length still will be less than 16".

I saw one at the range today.

LEO friend of mine was picking it up.

Looked like the after picture of a mating between an ar and a ps90 in a seedy motel.

Like the caliber but that upper

The only problem I see with the design is having an optical sight extend over the magazine. That could make mags difficult/impossible to change.

[#9]
The optic rail can take a full size Aimpoint M4 and not hang over the magazine.  Anything longer like most scopes and you will have a problem.  Given the limitations of the round I don't know why you would want anything other than a red dot on it anyway.

Interesting setup.  Saw the Troy one in SN for $700.  Interesting idea: 50 rounds of CQB ammo, low recoil, ...  I wonder what the CQB potential for a 204 upper would be as well.  Less recoil than 223, but same mags/bolt/etc.  Reloading 204 from 223 brass should be cheaper than 5.7 ammo, and more zip.  Interesting either way.

ohh that thing is sexy, just what I have been looking for, but,,,
the website said I have to have a federal firearms license to order a lower???
is this right? I dont own an AR, altho I carry an M-4 here in Iraq, didnt know you needed that license?? is a license hard to get??

anyone ever neck down the 5.7 for a .17 round, that would be nasty

I don't think its all that great. Compare the 5.56mm cartridge to the 5.7mm cartridge and you will understand my reasoning. If you already own a FiveseveN or a Ps90 I can understand buying the upper, but when you look at the ballistics its just another .22 with expensive brass.

Well I already have a gazzilion ARs in 5.56, 6.8, and .308 so its just a matter of expanding the collection.

Powder_Burns:
WHY would you compare the 5.7 round to a 5.56?  The 5.7 was not designed to compete with the 5.56 but to "replace" the 9mm in sub-gun sized PDW's and it does it's job very well.  I don't know of ANY 22mag ammo that puts out 3,000 fps and 385 ft/lbs. of energy like the 5.7 offering from Elite Ammunition does.

I have AR's in 5.56 and 6.8 SPC in 7.5", 10.5", 11", & 16" and am glad for more options.  I am very pleased with my Five-seveN pistol so this upper makes a great set for me.  Mine is out right now having the barrel and handguard cut down to 10" so the overall length will be 15" with my suppressor attached.  Talk about quiet with absolutely ZERO blow-back when suppressed!  When I get my AR57 back it will be inseprable with this puppy.

i have not found anywhere that says they manufacture this upper, and looking at my friends there was no company name just AR57 and the serial number which was 000318. he bought his from a local gun shop we frequent, i actually was the one that told the owner about it a few months ago after seeing it on here so he ordered 3 of them and now they're in. he said that he found out that they were being imported and MGS and other companies were just ditributing, but i have no idea how he came about that conlusion..

I can't find anything about it on Troys website...
12/8/2008 5:31:12 PM EDT
[#22]
They are NOT imported.  They were designed by Rhineland Arms in TX and the design patent sold to a company called 57Center in Redmond, WA.  Not sure if the upper itself is manufactured in WA but I am sure in the USA.  The barrels are ER Shaw's.  You can check out their web site www.57center.com for more details.

There will always be some Apples to Oranges comparisons when it comes to firarms. I have built my own 5.7X28 upper just to try the ammo and see how well it reloads. There have also been many comparisons between the FN 5.7 and the 22 magnum but most are done by those who use the ammo for hunting and range work. The 22 magnum is easy to get and a lot cheaper than the commercial FN ammo and that S4 stuff with the 3000 fps at about $40 a box that you mentioned is also a bit like comparing apples to oranges –– it's not common commercial ammo. I will say that the straight sides and no rim on the FN round make for much better feeding.
