Why does the suppressor of the SR25 connect to the barrel all the way back to the gas block?

you mean like on the MK11 mod 0 and M110 sniper rifles?
rather than having to thread on, the requirements for the military were for a quick attach/detach method, there's groves on the gas bloc on the sides for a pin, you slide the pin through the suppressor and firmly wedges against the bloc.
Hope that helps.

That's exactly what  I meant. So the first 6 inches of the suppressor is just like a heat shield over the barrel then there is some bottleneck that snugs up to the flash suppressor?? I wonder how much play there is at the flash suppressor.

None.  It contacts the flash suppressor as well making it attached at two points.  Very stable.

I believe all that "extra space" between the flash suppressor and the gas block serves as a large blast chamber and aids in reducing first round pop.

There is actually a fair amount of wiggle b/t the suppressor and the rifle. There are much better ways or achieving a fast attach suppressor. My vote is for the surefire

I can't imagine it being to much or you would get baffle strikes.

No, but if you grab the suppressor on the rifle you can definetely feel a noticable wiggle. I checked out 3 Mk11's and 1 M110 last weekend, and with the exception of 1 Mk11 with a lot of carbon buildup-all had a higher degree of movement than a thread on or your typical fast attach can. As far as precision rifle cans go, the Mk11/M110 cans don't have a great mounting system and there are better options.

Yup Glen makes a nice pack. I like the X1 as it seems to be the perfect size for a light load out. I never did like carrying a heavy ruck
