I have built a 6.8 Mega upper & lower, Kotonics 16" 6.8 1:11 chromed barrel, cmt bolt assembly all new.  Shot one time and locked up.  I had to hammer the charging handle back to get it open.  Had to hit it so hard it bent the charging handle and marked upper.  Shot SSA 115 OTM.  The case showed serious signs of over pressure.  Marked up and the primer fell out of pocket.  Any one have any ideas?  Ammo? Kotonics barrel?

head over to 68Forums.com and ask your question there.  Cardinal Armory/Kotonics is one of the board sponsors.

It's definitely a problem--could be related to the chrome lining issue that's been reported, but could just as easily be a rough chamber, or out-of-spec ammo....not that I've ever heard of SSA ammo being anything but excellent.

FWIW, beating on the charging handle isn't a very good way to open it from battery, no matter how stuck it is.  The 'pogo' technique usually works to clear stuck cases--slam the buttstock on the ground while pulling the charging handle.  This has worked for me about 99% of the time without bending the c/h or otherwise damaging the upper. (and the military designed the buttstock to survive in combat....you most likely won't damage it as long as you don't go apeshit on it.)

If the pogo doesn't work, place the buttstock on a firm surface (muzzle up).  Pull on the charging handle while dropping a 3/16" steel dowel rod--a few inches drop is all it takes--to tap-tap-tap the stuck case out.   ***ONLY do this with a known spent case!

CARDINAL ARMORY/KO TONICS is a AR15.com sponsor, his industry forum has some suggests on possible fixes but my best answer would be to call Tim and speak with him directly.

Thanks, thought I was posting in the variants.  Tried the pogo, it was no go and the steel rod, bent it.   I mentioned that to show how much force had to be used, how stuck the case was and it was after trying a rubber mallet also.  Hated doing that to my rifle, but really saw no other way.  I just want a starting point ammo or barrel people first?  I have built over 12, 5.56/.223 rifles and never had any issuses.  First 6.8 build, first shot, just sucks!  I appreciate your reply, thanks for the assistance.

The barrel has been sent back to Cardinal armory.  Reamed and polished.  Sold on AR15.com, waiting to hear back on the ream and polish job.
