| Hi everyone. I have been looking at getting a wssm upper for my Ar15. I know that I can get a 243 wssm, 223 wssm, and a 25 wssm. I really want a 25 wssm, but I have read and heard problems about the OAL. I do not handload and was wondering if anyone knew a factory loadings that do not have any feeding or magazine problems? I will mostly use this round for deer and hogs, so looking at the 120 gr loadings. Thanks |
| It depends on your purpose. Varmits, paper or deer ? The COL is a problem with heavier weight bullets in commerical ammo. Identify your purpose and what bullet you want to shoot and then check with the ammo maker - I would start with Winchester first for the 25 WSSM. You will find if you are going to shoot the WSSM's in semi's you should look into reloading or find a friend who will help you after you buy the dies. |

Actually, the 120 grain power-point factory ammo will fit in some magazines and is about .010" too long for other mags. When I first started testing with the .25 WSSM, the 120 grain bullets would feed and function perfectly, without modification, in about 40% of the magazines. I then tried setting the bullets back about .015" and then the worked in all of the magazines and had no signs of increased pressure. The polymer tipped bullets are normally where the problems are. One of my customers told me he had picked up some of the polymer tipped factory rounds just before a hunt. When he found out that they were too long, he pulled the tips out of the bullet with a pair of pliers. They shot good and fit the magazine perfectly. He and his daugter both got nice white tails with his "modified ammo". I guess it's not something I would do, but he "adapted and overcame" LOL! |
