What was the hang ups on these? Can the problems be fixed easily? I found one for sale and the price is like 900 bucks. Sounds high for a used one to me. I have a DPMS on order but thought I might pick this up as well. Maybe for a 300 saum upper or somthing. Sincerely, AL |

I never did get any solid answers on what the problem was with the BM 308's. I picked one up, and it had to go back to BM for some warranty work and a bolt carrier replacement for the new bolt, (it was one of the first production rifles) I think with RRA now producing the exact same rifle, it's going to keep the BM marketable, since the parts are 100% interchangeable. |

Bushmaster got the design from RRA. Bushmaster had bolt problems - along with other lesser problems - and gave the RRA design back to RRA. RRA spent two years redesigning the rifle. RRA has just begun shipping and we don't really have any reliable reports on functionality. The RRA shipping today is not the same rifle as the BM .308. Many parts are the same but not all. 5sub |
| There's the rub. I don't know and I'm not sure if any of the commandos here does either. I have a BAR-10, A2, 20" with an Ace stock. The thing is so accurate and comfortable is actually scary. Chronologically here's what happened as best as I can remember. First there was all the yammering about how much it was going for when it finally released and how you could get such and such a brand for X amount less. And they were pricey too. List was about $1800. Mine set me back $1400, new, but it was still being produced at the time. The pay-off was you could get cheap (where talking $5.00) FAL mags, inch or metric didn't matter, as opposed to the expensive proprietary mags that brand X required. The next one was it was originally a RRA design licensed to Bushmaster, that seems right, but what difference it made was beyond me. Then there was the line of how there were going to be issues from the "missing" lug in order to use the FAL mag. That rumor kind of petered out when there was a number of broken bolts in the first run of the rifles. The tail would break off at a score mark that was there, it's about an 1/2 inch up from the end. Sounds like a lot but the bolt and carrier dwarfs a regular AR's. I guess that one was true. I can't say if it ever stopped the rifle from functioning though. I've "heard" it didn't. That was addressed in later versions and the broken bolts were replaced. Then they just upped and stopped making them. That really had everyone assuming they were a lost cause. Bushmaster gave a brief that it wasn't profitable enough to keep producing them. The end is that RRA was going to to re-release it as a RRA 308 after they made sure the design is sound. All's I know is I like mine, I've had no problems. Most of the negative stuff is from those that repeat what the "heard", not what they've seen. If you do get it, try it out as it was designed for, a 308. You might be pleasantly surprised. |
i too have never had a problem, i had the old bolt, they swapped it out for free, it shoots 1 moa at 100, and i can routinly hit 18 inch plates at 700, pretty good for an assault type rifle. also i put the chip mac trigger in it, very happy with it,and changed the brake it came with for a phantom. probally get a rock river too when im able to round out the collection, maybe the varmit. |
In short, the tail of the bolt will be smoothly tapered to the end. The older models had a small channel-like groove cut into the tail of the bolt. After a couple of hundred rounds some bolts suffered cracking at this channel cut into the bolt tail. I never had a problem with mine; however, I swapped out the bolt assembly as a precaution. It was well worth the $1250 I paid for it. Hope this helps, B_S |
