It is also possible to look through a bore scope and see where the lands start.  If they start right at the end of the neck with no freebore, you have the SAAMI spec chamber.

Doing a chamber cast will give you something which is easier to reference as to the size of the freebore, etc., and is more "positive".  But since the SAAMI spec has no freebore at all, it's more a yes/no thing, and can be done with a bore scope.

So the land start right after the neck not.05 off that.  I thought the difference what .050 so the SPCII had roughly twice the throat of the SAAMI?  Is that correct or are we saying the same thing?  It seems confusing.  What I'm picturing you saying is that if I push a bullet as far as it will go up into the throat, until I meat resistance, it will stop short of the lands because the bullet is slightly bigger in diameter then the throat.  Or can I push it all the way into the lands.  If the later is the case, if you have a OAL gage, just try it out and see what you get for a OAL to the lands and then compare it to what others have for the same bullet in the 2 chambers.  that would also tell you roughly what you have.

The leade in a SAAMI and SPC II is .278 or .001 larger than the bullet so the bullet will go all the way to the lands before you meet resistance.
Total leade to the throat on a SAAMI .059, SPC II .100
That does not include the .005 taken up by the 45 degree angle at the end of the case.
