Hello All; Would those in possession of the quickload software try something for me? I am developing loads for a 20 " John Hollinger 6mm WOA barrel. While I wait for my Pressure Trace system, I want to start thinking about powder choices and bullet selection. The 6 mm WOA chamber is a 6.8 spc necked down to 6 mm, with a 0.050 freebore. I want to see what quickload predicts for the 69 grain Berger, 70 grain Nosler BT, and 85 grain Barnes TSX bullets (though I know quickload does not do a good job with the Barnes offerings). I was looking at the range of powders that the 6.8 seems to like, specificially (but not limited to) RL10X, H322, H335, and Varget. I would appreciate anyones help...and I'll post the results of my range tests later. -org... |

How hot do you want it, safe hot or my hot? BTW there isn't a 6mmWOA on QL the 6x39 is one of mine, For this I changed the volume and length to match the 6.8. Also notice the OAL is 2.3" for every .010 shorter drop .5 grain to start. Notice where I stopped the chart, don't discount 7 because it's on the bottom of this list. For the 69gr Berger LD drop an additional .2gr for a start. Cartridge : 6 x42DMR Bullet : .243, 70, Nosler BalTip 39532 Cartridge O.A.L. L6: 2.300 inch or 58.42 mm Barrel Length : 20.0 inch or 508.0 mm Predicted Data for Indicated Charges of the Following Powders. Matching Maximum Pressure: 55000 psi, or 379 MPa or a maximum loading ratio or filling of 100 % These calculations refer to your specified settings in QuickLOAD 'Cartridge Dimensions' window. Understand that all of the listed powders can be unsuitable for the given combination of cartridge, bullet and gun. Actual load order can vary, depending upon lot-to-lot powder and component variations. USE ONLY FOR COMPARISON ! 63 loads produced a Loading Ratio below user-defined minimum of 80%. Edited because I actually measured one of my cases and it's a 6x39 with a 30degree shoulder. |

Many thanks Constructor! Ha, I suspect that most guys shooting this cartridge for 600 yards (using 107 grain VLD's) are pushing 60,000 psi. They are getting ~2750 fps with those looong bullets... FYI: I know of one posted account of load/velocity data with the 70 grain BT, and the numbers were VERY similar to what you just posted: H322/28 gr./3100 fps. I wonder how things change if you top out at 60k vs 55k? |

How do you like the barrel so far? When I can get a more permanent space to set all my reloading gear back up I think I will have to try one these. Constructor, I dont know much about the capabilitys of quickload but can you use it to get a educated guess for velocity out of a shorter barrel. I am thinking for a 10-14.5" barrel |
it will do anything, rifles, pistols, blackpowder, even tells you how much recoil. comes with an exterior ballistics program too. |

Like anything White Oak does, it is top notch...beautiful work. The 6mm WOA was designed as a bench rest, long range cartridge that can shoot high BC bullets (ie: Berger 105 gr VLD BC = 0.556). Most guys who use the cartridge have 26" barrels, and get about 2750 fps with the 105 grain bullets. Hence, I am not sure about the value of a short barrel rifle shooting this round. You would be better off with a 6.8 SPC. |
