If you've built an AR-15, a 308 shouldn't be much of a challenge.

The first choice is which lower to base your build upon because that dictates the upper receiver:
Armalite/Eagle Arms
-or-
DPMS/Fulton/POF

The upper receiver dictates the barrel nut because Armalite and DPMS thread pitch are different. Many free float tube/rail manufacturers offer nuts in either pitch.

The gas port on Armalite barrels is further down the barrel, requiring a unique long gas tube.

Other than that, a 308 goes together like an over sized AR-15.

Now that Armalite has their gen 2 mags, there isn't much difference between them. Choose either and you can build a fine rifle.

While the upper receiver must match the lower, you can interchange the barrel assemblies and the bolt/BC assemblies. It is my experience that headspace is OK with either. One of my  two 308s is running an Armalite barrel and DPMS bolt/BC.

The only caution is using A DPMS rifle barrel with an Armalite rifle length float tube. There will be interference if the gas block is too big because the Armalite handguard is 3/8" longer than the DPMS handguard.

There aren't any AR-10 "kits" like you find for AR-15s. I bought most of the parts for my 308s from Armalite, but did get uppers and barrels from the Arfcom Equipment Exchange.
