I just received my DPMS LR308 with the 16 inch barrel.  I would like to install another handgaurd on it, preferably one that goes beyond the gas block, and nearly to the end of the barrel.  What are my options, and is this something you would recommend that I do myself?......

I truly appreciate any help or suggestions.  I have learned all I know on the AR15 (or AR10!) platform on this site!!! THANKS

Yes, you can do it yourself. Its not rocket science.

First, I would look for a low profile gas block that will fit under the hand guard. I believe your barrel is 0.75" in diameter at the gas block. You need to measure and verify.

Is your hand guard tube two pieces or one piece? If it is a 2 piece tube, you can buy the rifle length 2 piece tube from DPMS and swap the forward ends while leaving the barrel nut in place. That takes a lot of headache out of purchasing the receiver blocks and barrel nut wrench needed to swap out the barrel nut.

I have the JP on mine.  I really like the feel of the 2" handguard.
