| Looking to start doing some mods on my AP4 and I want to install a muzzle brake. I'm looking for suggestions ... |
|
Well that's a good way to end a thread. J/K I had a Miculek on my '15 and holy smokes that thing had a lot of pressure - i can't imagine a Miculek on my LR 308, but I'm considering it. Off topic, but those who've had the pleasure of firing an M82A1 a lot, just aren't the same with the pressure that brake puts out. Wow, talk about concussive. Makes you wonder if you're still you. |
I had that same bed sheets when I was a kid. Brought back memories |

Well, I went to the range today and shot the new M60 FH, I was very impressed. Couldnt tell a big difference on the kick but a big and I mean big difference in sound. Is was way quiter than the factory phantom wanna-be Flash hider, and absolutely no pressure back on the shooter. Its huge, its long and its there to stay. Well worth the $30. |

I assume we're all talking about the DPMS LR-308AP4 ... if so, I have a question or two: Does anyone have a recommendation on a brake/FH that does in fact cut down on the felt recoil (prefferably significantly) with out tearing the shirt off of ya? Also are the threads for the installation of the brake/FH a standard rate? Does anyone know what they are so I could maybe do some more informed research on line? Any help would be much apprciated. I'd reallt like to enjoy shooting this rifle one day, it's currently just too punishing to be much fun. PS I hear talk of a Tungsten buffer that is supposed to help also, any one out there with any experience with these. |
| My DPMS 308 Ap4 is 5/8-24 thread pitch. JP ( I think) makes a brake that is pretty cool as brakes go and supposedly does what your lookin for. Cant rember where I saw it a but it was the right thread and for 7.62 cal. Kinda pricy though, Think it was just under $100 and was S.S. and they didnt have a parkerized model when I checked. I think it was actually listed for the Ar-10 but correct thread. I think it was called AR-10 recoil compensator and almost sure it was JP. Try and google it. |
| If you want to try a cheaper way the DPMS m60 FH really cut down the blast and sound. As for recoil I didnt really notice much difference if any. Plus the AP4 308 really doesnt kick bad. Muzzle rise was slightly less. Didnt try any quick fire being I was setting my Eotech. But it is well worth the $30 and worth a try. |

Blast and sound are really not nearly as important to me compared to the recoil. You can say the AP4 doesn't kick "that bad" but I'd be in complete disagreement with you. My other 308s don't beat me up anywhere nearly as bad. So, it's a brake I'm looking for. I'd love to hear someone who's actually used a brake, any brake, to chime in here. I'm up for suggestions. |
DNTC BRAKE $70.00 mm Review Look under AR15 Accessories... S/F Mike |
| If you look at the pic it has flat sides for a wrench. Use a cresent wrench and put a shop rag between the jaws. I used a strap wrench on my due to lack of no flats. Either one works fine. Mine wasnt that tight. I was abble to hold the rifle in my hand, agasinst my body and broke it loose with the other hand. Wasnt bad at all. |

Well, I got it today and installed it in about 77 seconds. Nifty looking little bugger. Can't wait to shoot it. I will say this: It's far more sturdy, polished (fit and finish) and nifty looking installed than the online pics let on. I am very happy with this purchase so far, I'll report back Sat. after a range trip with some hornady TAP and a bit of S&B. Thanks for the tips guys, this was painless and fulfilling. |
