I just picked a Barrett M468 upper and have taken it to the range once.

It is expensive..  Is it worth the expense? I'll know more after I've had some time with it.

Why did I choose the Barrett. Well the following is conjecture that I have derived from reading things here. But I am under the assumption that it can fire hotter 6.8 loads even under sustained fire conditions. Plus with Barrett frequently supplying firearms to the military, this upper should be well sorted out.

Some points I've noticed after having fired it..

Using a CAR buffer and spring, it shoots with less perceived recoil than some 5.56 rifles I have fired. It has a brake yes.. but the timing on it could be playing a factor here too. I'm not sure. What I can say is it is smooth.. a very smooth.

It seems accurate..  I have not had it on a rest to determine how accurate it is or exactly what ammo it likes just yet. I have read sub MOA is not a problem.

I like the bolt..  I'm guessing it is an LMT enhanced bolt. I am not sure. But the weapon fires flawlessly and that bolt cleans up like a dream.

As to it's abilities with hot loads.. I'll know more after I can find the time to learn how to put my reloading gear to good use. But I have been told personally that the throat is extended to facilitate better performance during sustained fire.. plus with a 1:10 chromed barrel it should be a performer. We shall see...  I could be SOL.

So far I am not crazy about the SIR50 forearm.. but don't exactly hate it either. It seems good enough.. but it also seems to require consideration when attaching stuff. The rails do not seem to exactly conform to the 1913 standard.. and the entire bi-level affair seems to favor a forward mounted Eotech if you want a co-witnessed sight. The forarm is a little bulky overall.. but it should serve it's purpose.

Overall.. I am very happy with it.

There was actually a testing of the barret 6.8 on Future Weapons last night.  Most of what they say is a little farfetched(they make the barret sound like it's the sole purpose behind the 6.8spc cartridge), but you can probably go to discovery.com and check out the video anyway.

I know there was a guy on the site that sold his M468 and had ADCO build him a rifle.

His username is upsguy.

I would send him an IM and see what he has to say, never hurts to have as much info as possible about a product.

I have a SIR M59 (rifle length) and I like it fine, would probably go a different route in the future.

Also there are a lot of options in the area of barrels, I believe Kotonics (?) is making up 6.8 barrels too, I know they had a sale recently on a batch.

Good luck, update this thread about your thoughts and decision!

I've owned my M-468 since Jan 2005 and overall I'm very satisfied with it I have fired everything from factory Remington OTM, Hornady V-Max,Silver State Extreme, as well as my own hand loads without any problems.

For you MM, anything.  I've had the complete M468 for awhile now.  At first, I was kind of put off by the price but figured it was not going to be a readily available rifle and Barrett has an excellent rep.  It's also in "post ban" config for those of us in CT.

It is an amazingly smooth shooter and very accurate.  I don't mind the rail.  I really wanted to keep this rifle as it came.  You can see in some of the pics that I messed with the optics.  I did put a TD Battlegrip on for a bit.  There is also a Sully stock as the only problem I had with the rifle was a very loose and cheap feeling buttstock that would not tighten down.  Other than that, the rifle has been flawless with just about 3000 rounds through it, all Hornady.

This is my 4th 6.8.  I love the caliber.  It's a tossup for me between this and my Noveske Infidel 6.8.  I highly recommend the Barrett.

Wow, now that is a sweet rifle !  Did you have to special order it, or did one of the better stocked candy shops  have it.

I , along with many others, have been watching the 6.8 upper challange slowly evolve. Now that uppers are ariving for testing, and once the results are public, i plan on putting some sort of 6.8 SPR together.

I love the Barret name and durability, but also like what Kotroniks has done with their barrels.

BTW, I have 200+ rounds of factory 6.8 sitting here. Any chance we can hook up sometime for a little plinking? Be like old times, just no HK's.
