Since CP Products is going to start manufacturing 7.62x39 Mags, I was thinking about building one.  Can someone give me some pointers to where I should start?  I am not looking for the best parts but at least the quality has to be good.  I have a standard lower from EA so I have to get everything else.  Is there a particular manufacturer I should go to?  Pros and cons on your experience.  Any and all info is much appreciated.

Thanks!

I am fortunate enough to shoot a Colt 16" flattop.  I would not want a longer barrel as the velocities and ranges for which I use the rifle are more than adequate. Factory Rem JSP's will do 2250 ft/secs, and reloads match or exceed for accuracy.  155 Sierra Palma bullets will do 2200 ft/secs and under 1 MOA.  Since I reload nearly all my ammunition I would go with a .308 diameter barrel, but if factory ammo is your thing, then the standard metric design will suit you better.  On a total build, the .30 PPC improved would likely feed better and have less magazine problems.  I think the Grendel mags should work with that cartridge without fault.

In the field I have used the 7.62 x 39 on several hunts which produced very satisfactory results.  This is an excellent cartridge which suffers from the Not Made in the US syndrome.

Good luck
