I have owned 3 colt AR15's(223) and 3 H&K SL 7 (308 sporter version of the 91). very accurate gun

Before the ban I sold two of the SL7s. During the ban I sold 1 Ar 15 and earlier this year i sold the other 2 AR15's. Now I am without any 223 weapons.

I really like the 308 round better than 223 for reaching out 100+ yards.

I think the 9 mm carbines are cheaper to shoot and just as good in close quarter tactical use as 223.

But i have sold so many and now my safe looks empty.

I would like to buy some nice semi auto 308's but dont want to sacrifice the accuracy and dependability I am used to.

I never had a problem with my Ar15 223 , but i am concerned about that platform holding up with the larger caliber. i have read threads about them having problems. I cant afford a stoner so which one is more accurate and dependable.
DPMS ,Armorlite, rock river are any of these as accurate as the SL7

I have heard that the Fal is very dependable but is it as accurate as my SL7

Should I be looking at the new US made version of the 91. The PTR 91

What about the M1A

thanks

Jim

dpms or armlite. i wouldnt put to much faith in RRA as their project is running behind at least 6 months now, both rifles have had issues but nothing i would consider serious

both rifles will produce consistant 5 shot SUB MOA groups, im not sure what  your sl7 will do, but most high end 308 AR's will out shoot the PSG1,

M1As are nice, but have soo soo accuracy, depending on stock and or bedding issues and feel like a hunting rifle

not sure about ptr91s,

FWIW, I went through this very same exercise starting a year or so ago.

I love my DPMS AP4 and don't regret deciding on that platform one bit (I'm already looking for a second ), but I have friends who love their Armalite AR-10s as much or more and I have enjoyed shooting them over the years as well.

I put my new Aimpoint ML3 on my AP4 this weekend, but I haven't sigted it in yet and don't have any pics with it mounted yet...

I'd say the DPMS 308's are one of the best accuracy buys out there right now. In fact, there was a board member who posted here awhile back about his 1/3 MOA out of the box LR308.

As for reliability, there are few complaints. It seems ttheir 260 chambered offerings are a little to tight for a semi auto, but the 308's seem to only come under fire from people who don't own them.

My local dealer has a DPMS on order and they don't expect it till April.  Plus I dont really understand why anyone would want a 16" barrel on a .308.  The 308s main advantage over the .223 is long range knock down power and not CQC.  Why not maximize the velocity by using a long barrel.

I have a 16" middy .223 for my house gun and I ordered a RRA 20inch LAR-10 for my hunting and long range shooter.

It makes for a handy rifle that still has plenty of power.

Additionally, a 147gr out of a 16" bbl matches up almost perfect to the BDC on an ACOG TA11E.
