Does anyone else have a front sight post that has to be sticking wayyyy up to get it to zero? I was using Federal 150grn SP today and by the time I had her zeroed I noticed my front sight post way standing real tall. Did I miss something? There is just a slight bit of light slipping underneath the bottom of the sight post. Between the post and base. That's right, under the base of the post. WTF??

BTW it's a stock AP4 with the detachable rear. I switched over to some Aussie surplus and it helped a bit as it was shooting lower than the Feds.

Mine is the same way.  I wonder if a different sight base would work better.

Glad it's not just me. Sorry to hear you have the same problem. I guess I'll give DPMS a call on Monday. I hope they don't want it back. I can't stand sending new weapons in after purchasing them. It's happened once before with another company.

Ahh, front sight/gas block is an A2. Not "F" marked.

BTW, took the AP4 over to my brothers to show him the new rig. Imagine how I felt when he pointed out that the front sight post was bent. It was higher than the base and must of been bent in the case when I handled it. Dang thing bent back way too easy to.

Looking at the sight post it looks like it would take some force to bend it out of position.  Sorry to hear about your luck.

I'm akginmasters brother, and I have to tell you that I was surprised at the weak ass material used in the front sight post.  I know my brother, and I'm sure that he has been takeing good care of this AP4.  You should know that this front sight post was weak as hell.  It took a nylon punch, and a couple of taps to bend this back in to place.  One more tap, and the post might of broke.  Very weak material.  In my opinion DPMS should of put the right height FSP assembly on there in the first place, but as we all know alot of producers will take the short cut of just ordering a bunch, thinking one size will work for all.  It doesn't.  When a regular front sight post is used on shorter bbls, it makes you have to adjust your elevation to the point where your post it slightly taller than the "ears" of the FSP.  Easily going to get snagged on something like a soft case. (I think this is in my brothers case)  Oh well, his going to upgrade, and may even go with a flip up.

Got pics?

I've got an AP4 too and IIRC my FSP sits about flush with the threaded part.

Where do you have your rear elevation knob set?

Mine also sticks up a little past the "ears" on the front post.  Kind of annoying, the ears are supposed to protect the front sight, and they can't do that if the sight is sticking up past them.

Spoke with DPMS today and the gentleman that I spoke to said he never heard of this problem. He was just going to send me another sight post untill I explained that it to would more than likely get snagged or bumped as it is sitting HIGHER THAN THE EARS(something that he didn't get the first go around). He asked me what I wanted and I told him a "F" marked FSB or a railed gas block and I would buy a front flip up sight for it. He said that he could send a railed gas block out and got my mailing info. That's not a bad fix and I am greatly appreciated of it. He just hopes that it will take care of it, he doubted it. Anyways I have a YHM flip up coming from CMMG. I let you all know if this fixs it.

Um, where it is supposed to be. Actully tried moving it around to lower the front sight post down but then the rear was maxed out.

Your suppose to zero with the rear sights at the lowest.  Your main elevation adjustments should be made with the front sight post.  You only use your rear elevation for quick adjustments when shooting at targets at longer ranges.  I had the same problem that my brother is, but it was with a BM AR15.  They just sent me a taller FSP.  Theirs was of better quality.  I can tell you that from experience.  I'm not knocking DPMS.  I like their stuff, but this time I have to say that the FSP on my brothers AP4 was shit.

AR180,

I beleive that your suppose to have a different front sight base.  That's why you always hear about quality manufacturers pointing out that their ARs are built with an "F" marked FSB.
