Since no one else is gonna give it a try, here goes....

The sighting distance depends entirely on the intended ranges that you will use the gun, the ballistics of the cartridge, and the aiming system.  You did not specify any of these, so you will have to answer the question for yourself.

If all you do is plink at a given range, use that one.  If you plan on hunting, decide what your maximum range limitation is, and plug the numbers into a ballistic program or consult with a table and make a decision.  The point blank range is often used by hunters which roughly is based on the amount of bullet distance above and below a target of a given size.  What this means is that an animal has a kill zone that is of certain size.  There is a corresponding distance (in range) where when zeroed, you bullet will never be above or below that size, out to a given distance.  This is usually referred to as maximum point blank range.  Out to this range, you just hold dead on, and fire.

I would suggest that at the least you run the bullet numbers through some type of program and look at the various zero settings.  Compare these to the distances that you plan on shooting, and you will be able to make a decision.

This is rough and dirty, but I hope it helps.
