I was just given a few hundred 335g FMJ Midway bullets....and a couple of pounds of Accurate 1680.... What would be a good starting load for a plinking round out to 75 yards.....( we shoot steel plates and bowling pins at that distance).....thanks |

Try this link: www.alexanderarms.com/website/id12.html For a 325 grain bullet, a load of 47.0 grains is listed; you could reduce this by 10% for a starting point with 335 grainers, but you'd be better off buying the bullet WEIGHTS listed. |

Hi user426 , i am using the same bullets if those are the ranier's , 335gr plated HP , 36.9gr LiL-Gun , 2.110 oal . CCI #350 L.P.mag pri . This is 1gr under the recommended but is a decent load , i get 1" group's at 100yd and believe it will do 1/2"-3/4" with sand bags which i will try next . I havn't tried going hotter because i am quit happy with this load and want to take it easy on the brass . Hope this helps . EDITED to say---OOP's just noticed that you indicated that you had Accurate 1680 , sorry . If it were me i would start 1gr under this load from AA's site . Barnes ‘XM’ Via Dealers www.barnesbullets.com CCI # 350 Large Pistol Magnum 2.153” Accurate 1680 47.0 Grains 325g Copper HP |

I am also interested in reloading this cartridge. I bought some 335 grain Ranier 50's from Midway. How are these against 1/2" steel plate at 50 yards? I shot a 1/2" steel plate last weekend with a 334 grain AA factory load and it didn't penetrate. It deformed the heck out of it though. I guess such a big cartidge that moves relatively slow compared to "rifle" rounds is better for softer targets. My friend's Ruger .270 cut through the steel like butter. It was kind of embarassing because I talked up the 50 Beowulf and it let me down on the steel challenge. I still love to shoot this cartidge! Some of the most fun I have had on the range. |
| I,ve never tried them on steel as yet , but that .270 has a nice point to it and half the diameter , as opposed to the wulf's flatter 1/2" bullet ( harder to penatrate the steel )! Some where I saw an article where they shot 1" steel with the wulf , might have been the 400 gr bullet and it went half way through , 1/2" creater . A lot depends on the steel plate too , cold or hot drawn or hardened etc. |
| The steel I shot at was hardened. It was like armor plate because it was made for smaller caliber plinking. I know I wouldn't want to wearing it on my body when the Wulf hit. It looked like it would break your ribs and leave a huge bruise. What about Powerbelt steel bullets? |
