What are you doing to benchmark your accuracy.

Are you shooting in a stable position such as on a bench off of bags?

Are you shooting a minimum of 5 round groups?

You had a difference of .25 to .5 moa you said. Compared to what. Did you shoot a handful of five round groups and record the average. Or are you just comparing to one random group.

Edit: nvm I just read the rest of the thread. If you have a 0.5 moa AR you should be competing with it.

The existence of the 1.3" group clearly indicates that I have not returned to that level of accuracy after deep cleaning, although it certainly looks better than before the deep cleaning.

If you just toss out groups you don’t care for, your standard of accuracy can be whatever you’d like.

Why would you throw out the 1.3"?

That's still 0.9" without throwing it out.

This guy is giving us ammo reviews with his scope mount backwards too.  Always glad to see new shooters join the board but the propensity for them to bestow their expertise on us while also demonstrating a complete lack of understanding makes my lower eyelid twitch.

Update: I've discarded the barrel with the ugly looking gas port, and I've replaced it with the White Oak Armament barrel. Shot a competitive 600 match with it, here is how it looks like:

This is clearly a troll/joke post account.

If not...

1. That gas port looks great. Almost new. I have barrels with deep long trenches that shoot sub MOA.

2. Factory ammo is just not consistent. Lot to lot you will eventually see a change in accuracy. There are great lots and poor lots. Might be powder supplier, might be primer change, might be brass manufacturer or neck tension, might be seating depth... but you will eventually run into a bad lot. You cant really say anything about aparticular ammo but you can say something about a particular LOT of ammo.

3. You can also have a great load at 60 degrees that shoots for crap at 90 degrees. Temperatures affect powders and since 99% of all commercial powder is spherical you will see much more temperature to pressure variations than temp stable extruded powders used by reloaders for matches. And thus higher odds of having ammo that is great at one temp and not great at another.

But I am 99% sure this is a troll account. It is just too silly. The ugly gas port comment was over the top. Next we will be discussing rifle plates in brief cases vs taped to your torso.

And while that score with a .223 CAN be done with NO wind... a brand new barrel with factory ammo... it seems mighty suspicious. 600 is much different than 200-400 yards. Wind tosses .223 around like crazy.  Factory ammo SD gives some substantial vertical strings.

What kind of match was this? It looks like a NRA highpower match, which means 4.5x max and unsupported. I certainly cant do that without a bag and bipod and only 4.5x max. For such a match, all the rounds hitting a 3 MOA 18" target is great.

NRA highpower, "AR Tactical Mid Range Prone Rifle" class (rule 3.3.2). I shot it with the 4-16x44 scope, 16" WOA .223 Wylde barrel, bipod, rear bag, and suppressor.

Here are the rules:

I agree the freak-out about the gas port was a little over the top.

Yes, holding 3 MOA for a novice Highpower shooter is pretty good-sling and 4.5X scope. But, the OP did pretty decent for first time NRA Tactical (Bipod/15X scope), keeping his group around 2 MOA. (Each grid line on Shotmarker  is 1 MOA)

Regardless, you are incorrect in a couple of your statements. 77gr don't get "blown around" at 600yd. They are the most popular weight used in Highpower. Next higher weight occasionally used in Highpower is 80gr (single loaded due to length) but it is really only a half MOA more stable than 77gr in the same velocity wind.

Factory SD's even in the 20-something range is less than half MOA vertical at 600yds, well within most shooter's typical holding error. Not an issue, and therefore a lot Highpower shooters ignore SD. F-class and PRS seem more concerned with SD's.

Be sure to check the gas port on your WOA barrel now.

77s aren't winning much in 600 prone anymore. It's all Berger 80.8 gr now. They do shoot better. I still shoot 77 smk at 600 and am worse off for it.

Haha, I see that I am not the only one who is into gas port porn. I’ve shelved the original barrel, but I got a beautiful brand new Proof Research barrel, so I can post the pics of its virgin gas port.

I bought one this spring.   Used a couple times.  So far most of the rimfire bores all look the same surface roughness but yet they do not shoot the same.  I was expecting that my Ruger Precision Rimfire would look terrible because it’s a very very mediocre shooter.   It appears no worse than anything else I looked inside of.  Of course the scope doesn’t measure tightness or other dimensions.

So far the scope hasn’t revealed shit! lol

That is a rear form of bore cancer. It is highly contagious and should be handled with the utmost care. I will send you an IM with an address and you can bag it up in a biohazard bag and send it to this address.
