Pinned and welded makes it over 16" so legal.

Most muzzle devices nowadays bring a 14.5" barrel out to 16.1.

You should be GTG.

Why not just get a 16" barrel and be done with it, plus there is no worries about pin and weld ?

That's what I do, the 1.5 extra inches is not noticeable, plus I can swap muzzle devices to my heart's content.

thats what i decided to do for my build im working on.  i dont want to worry about the pin if i want to change to an adjustable GB, barrel nut etc.
as you said, the 1.5 isnt going to make a difference. it wont swing anybetter than a 16 around a corner. if thats what your worried about, just SBR it.

I like to pin and weld because I have AAC interfaces that bring it out to 16"+ inches.
It makes the mid length gas systems look great.

CAR handguards and a 16" barrel always looks so stupid  to me.
Like a semi UZI .

Subtract the length of the threads on the barrel and add back the crush washer, shims, or whatever, or nothing if it doesn't call for it.

2.6" is plenty, but it's not rocket science to figure out the final length.
