I recently scored a used MVB PDW Stock in anticipation of building/owing my first SBR AR. A few days ago I installed the stock on one of my AR carbines and took it out to the range. With the stock installed I was able to produce a decent/partial cheek weld but after 70 rounds I began to notice some discomfort produced by a combination of recoil while resting my cheek on the short buffer spring tube, towards the end of the tube where the unsupported area [gap] is.
I was surprised to learn MVB doesn't [currently] offer a cheek piece kit for this popular model, so I decided to make my own. At this stage the cheek piece design is still under development but the final piece probably won't be too much different from the one shown in the photos. The area on the butt stock where the 4 screws holes will be drilled/tapped is pretty much finalized.
The cheek piece extends just far enough to fill the gap between the butt stock and the buffer spring tube. This will provide a continuous area [full comb] that will help achieve a proper cheek rest. The biggest obstacle in this project will be to design the cheek piece to allow the CH to be completely pulled/racked without any interference. Of course, I already have a few ideas how it can be done...;)
At this stage of the project, the butt stock/piece has not been drilled and it will not be drilled until i'm satisfied with the final design of the cheek piece.
PLEASE NOTE, this project is in it's infancy. The cheek piece is in a prototype phase. Please do not attempt to alter or modify your MVB PDW Stock based on my preliminary, untested theories and information. THANKS.
Here's a few pics of the stock, with and without the cheek piece.
