Seems like a simple thing to find but I am having a devil of a time finding a standard stainless rifle length buffer spring.

Well, let me clarify, lots of "standard" rifle buffer springs out there but almost none of them straight up say "stainless" in the description.

I know it's basically viewed as a commodity item but I'd like to know what I am buying.

Alternately midway has a CS one from AR Stoner: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/934837/ar-stoner-buffer-spring-ar-15-carbine

Any reason I should shy away from that?

Thanks

All of the springs I have purchased are Mill Spec Stainless Steel Springs, I just did a search for SS Buffer Spring and a hell of a lot of hits came back.

Here is a link to a Spikes Mil Spec 17-7 Stainless spring for $10 bucks with free shipping.

If you want to use in a standard length, they also offer the correct spacer to do so, it is a Spikes ST-T0

The new Tubb flatwire spring is made of stainless instead of CS.  It can be used in both rifles and carbines, I use them in my mids and rifles, but have not tried the new stainless version yet.

Yeah not fundamentally opposed to cs. Check the link in my original post. CS spring for like $4.

Trying to group my purchases to spread shipping costs but let me check your link out.

Many thanks all.
