I'm considering doing an LMT MRP build. This will be in an SPR-type role, so I'm leaning towards the rifle-length MRP chassis. However, I can't find any complete rifle-length complete MRP rifles, except for the newer SLK8. Everything I've seen online, both on LMT's website and for sale by dealers, is a CQB/carbine-length system. The rifle-length upper is available separately, but not as a complete rifle, safe for the SLK8, which is a smooth-side upper and costs $600 more for the stainless barrel option.

At the same time, the CQB/carbine model looks more versatile and seems to have more options; however, my goal is to run 16" and 18" barrels in an SPR configuration and I'm concerned that the handguard portion of the MRP won't be long enough on the CQB.

Here are my questions:

  • Did LMT stop producing rifle-length MRP rifles in general?

  • Does anyone have any photos of an 18" barrel on a CQB-length MRP?

  • Is there any downside to using the CQB model in an SPR configuration, compared to the rifle-length?

  • Are there any good alternatives to factory MRP barrels for use in the MRP platform in a precision role? I know conversions exist, I'm referring to ready-to-go options.

Thanks!

LMT makes both a smooth and railed version of the rifle length chassis.  Their website shows a 20" barrel on a smooth rifle upper.  No downside unless you have to have rail covering as much barrel as possible.  There are no alternatives to a factory LMT barrel other than having something converted.

They are still making rifle length chassis MRPs and I'm attempting to get a couple for the shop.

We were originally offered some guns with 14.5" barrels and pinned and welded YHM FHs but we passed on them.

Here's a picture of my 16" MRP Rifle chassis with a 16" barrel and Viper PST 1-4.
I put it on my ADM UIC Duty series lower with KAC 2 stage FCG and scalloped selector.

I hope we get a few of the MARS with some SLK8 uppers as I think they'll be nearly perfect.  So much so that I might pick up one and send a Knight's SR-15 E3 barrel to be mated to that receiver by a Mr. Marvin Pitts.

You're correct in thinking the CQB chassis needs more handguard for an 18" barrel as it really shines with 10.5 and 12.5 variants.

Beyond that, I want more handguard.

Everything you could want to see in the MRP badness sticky at the top of this section. Every time I look in there, I want something else and I already have a few of them.

I wonder if they will ever make a 6.5 Grendel mrp barrel
