I'm beginning my first built, and I need some help from the experts. I just received a
Spikes dissipator complete upper. It appears that the, F marked A2 front sight base is slightly
canted out of alignment with the centerline of the top of the upper , but it could be that the handguard
is twisted a bit. I haven't got my lower yet so I can't attach the upper to a lower for a better look at the
overall front sight base alignment. What's the best way to tell if sight needs adjustment?

Having worked a bit with clamp on brakes, I've found that the best way is to put your eye down by the rear of the upper receiver and look down the top rail towards the FSB.  You should be able to see pretty clearly if it's right or not from that angle.  Though, if your FSB is pinned, I don't think there's much you can really do.  The pins follow cuts in the barrel so you'd have to modify those somehow.

There is really not a lot you can do if you got one with a canted sight, as the previous message said, they are pinned through groves cut in the barrel, normally if it is not much, it will still perform with no problem at all, I have had a couple with canted sights and was able to get them sighted in and they were as accurate as any I have owned.

Thanks for the education. I didn't know how a pined sight is attached.
That sure sounds  like adjust is out of the question.
I think mine is off by just a little.
So I'm guesting I'll need to zero it with the windage at the rear sight.
Thanks

Yes adjust via wind age on rear. I have seen some older Bushys that the front was so canted that no rear adjust, nets would help. They also shipped uppers with crushed phantom flash hiders I was surprised at how bad the things were that they shipped out

You need to find out how many clicks on the rear sight it will take to zero. Then you get to fight with spikes CS over what is considered within their tolerance range.

If you have the tools, you can loosen the barrel nut and see if the barrel will turn in the corect direction to fix the cant.
Most of the time, cant happens when the barrel is installed and moves. Many times there is a little play between the notch and pin on the barrel extension.
I had also used a small piece of shim in the notch to correct when someone has torqued the barrel too much.

This.

The notch can also be widened and shimmed slightly.

But being a brand new barrel if it is off return it for a new one.
