I'm just getting the last few pieces together for a 14.5 Colt Socom build. The upper will wear Geissele MK8 rails. If you had to choose a muzzle device to have pinned to this upper, what would it be? Intended purpose is for hard use SD/HD.

There are a million options for muzzle devices out there and everybody has their opinion of what is best.

At least you were specific enough for us to know its for a 5.56 barrel.

As already stated, there are MANY to choose from. Got any more requirements we should consider?

Length should be your #1 consideration.

If cost is #2 then an A2X.

Keep it M4 worthy, and use a SF3P or SOCOM brake.  if money is an issue and you don't plan on running it suppressed, go with extended A2.

If it's an HD/SD rifle, I'd opt for something that's a suppressor mount....choose the suppressor you want and then use the corresponding mount.

ETA: if you aren't/ can't go suppressed then the extended a2 as AC pointed out is a good choice. Just make sure you and anyone else who's eardrums you don't want to blow out have ear pro when you fire that thing in an enclosed area

Smith Vortex. You can pick them up fairly cheap on the EE.

SF3P if your doing it close to right, or standard A2X

This is what I chose on my Colt SOCOM, and I have no regrets...
