The direct answer to your question would be "as long as you can get."
The more helpful answer would be that the 6.8 isn't really designed for those ranges -- it was intended as a point blank-600m combat and hunting round optimized for use out of 14.5"-16" carbine barrels. My 16" with 115 grain soft points goes subsonic just after 600 yards. You could get it to go a little farther with a longer barrel, lower drag bullet, and a hot load, but you would be fighting an uphill battle getting that cartridge to stay supersonic to 800 yards. I suggest a different cartridge if you really want to shoot that far. If you want to keep it in an AR-15 receiver, 6.5 Grendel would probably be your best bet. |
