I got a surefire procomp and wanted to ask if I will be better off using a jam nut or shims to properly time it. With the crush washer installed the center line on top goes past 12 o'clock to the left, around 11 so I need to use either to center it.   Tried it without but still no luck. Thanks

Did you buy it used? It should come with shims and a sheet to time it properly. You could call Surefire their CS is great!

I bought it new and just the regular one, not the model where a suppressor can be attached so it only comes with the crush washer. I was actually thinking of calling them and ask if they can sell just the shims

I called not too long ago requesting some shims and they sent them promptly free of charge.

I have a PWS FSC556 and tried using my A2 flash hider crush washer. It did not work. So of course, I had to repeatedly time to comp with the pack of shims that it came with. Shims would give you a better fit, I believe.

I recently bought a comp for my rifle and after looking around a bit I settled on a JP jam nut, has worked well so far and was easy as pie to install. Primary Arms has them to $11 if you're interested.

I'm confused, did it come from SF with a crush washer (I don't have any experience with this particular muzzle device)?  If so, and your description of where it is currently timed is correct, it appears you just haven't crushed the washer far enough yet.

Why not back the torque off and then torque again to get it where it needs to be?

Thanks for the input guys, I'll give surefire a call for the shims.

Crush washer= back it off, re-torque until its in the right spot.  That is the whole point of them.

Crush washers come with the SF pro-comps, you do not need to shim that muzzle device.

Well, there you go, OP.  Since it comes with a crush washer, then use the crush washer how it's designed to be used, and you'll get your MD timed properly.

Confuses me how this is so hard for people lol

Crush washers are the easiest of all M.D. washers to use. I've never had trouble with one.

And add needless torque to your barrel. OP, just go on Amazon and buy a shim kit for 8.00. Make sure to get either 1/2x28 or 5/8x24 for whatever you need. No need to torque the hell out of your barrel. A little rockset/blue locktite and you will be good to go!
