looking at the geissele ssa trigger and the 3 gun trigger.

this is going on what i call my do all rifle, colt 16in barrel free float tube luepold 1-4 scope. its not a super small and light cqc rifle nor a 20in long range bipod spr/dmr style thing if any of that made sense to you guys. it mostly sits in my bedroom unless im at the range or taking rifle/combat classes.

anyway i want a nice crisp performance style trigger but i dont want one of those 2lb single stage instant reset triggers. i shot one of my friends and it felt "dangerously" touchy if used in defense or during a training class. i narrowed it down to these 2 triggers from what iv seen online. how is the slack/forgivness on the 3 gun trigger is there any play at all or is it a touch it and bang trigger. i want one with a little take up for safty reasons but not a big slopy trigger with a realy long reset.

hope all of that made sense and if some one has shot one or both i would appreciate any info.

SSA or SSA-E, for a safe multi-purpose rifle that can also shoot tight groups.

If its use leans more toward precision and still hunting, get the E. If it tilts more toward HD and tactical, go with the SSA.  I have the SSA-E and do not find the total pull tbrough of 3.5 lbs with stage two a mere 1.2 lbs, to be too light, but some might want a little heavier trigger for general purpose.  If you run carbine courses it may be a bit light.  If you shoot at bench or prone a lot at fixed targets it may still be a bit too heavy.  For my use, which does include HD, the E is just right.

Definitely the SSA or SSA-E.

I ran a SSA-E through a small rifle course and I felt that it was light and crisp, but not too light to the point where it was uncomfortable.

The trigger you want is the SSA.

The SSA-E has a lighter pull, and the 3-gun version has a VERY fast reset.

You might want to watch this:

Decide if you want single stage or 2 stage before you drop $200 plus on a trigger. That is the main difference between the 2 triggers you mention. Personally, I don't like 2 stage for a "battle" rifle. For precision, I like 2 stage and have an SSA in my SPR. YMMV.

Choosing the correct Geissele trigger is actually pretty simple if you refer to their Appliation Guide.

You plan to use your rifle like a HD/SHTF/general purpose rifle which equates to "MILITARY" in the guide.

You aren't shooting 3-Gun so you don't want the 3-Gun trigger.

Dont get the SD-C (flat blade) triggers.

Because you will replace all your SSAs

Your intended use sounds like a good fit for the G2S. It's pretty much the same feel and function of the SSA but at a reduced price point. Geissele uses a different pin retaining method, foregoes the laser engraving and just batch tests (MPI) the triggers to accomplish the lower price point. I have them in all my AR's and really like them.

The 3gun trigger has a little travel on either a light spring or a more standard ~4# spring then bang.  Short positive reset.  Very fast for a carbine class but not great for accuracy work.  I think their two stage triggers would be a better choice after reading your concerns.

As everyone has said you want the SSA.

It has the heaviest total pull at 4.5 lbs with the first stage at 2.5 and second at 2. It acts as a single stage when you just pull staright through instead of staging it like a revolver or DA trigger. IMO its the perfect trigger for a "duty" or "HD" rifle, and can be used as a precision trigger as well at distance.

ETA: 3 gun trigger is way to light and fast, and get the standard SSA not the E. Go the heaviest most crisp route for what your doing.

I have the g2s in an AR set up similarly to yours, op.  Pretty much exactly what I was looking for and I got it for $120 from AIM so it was a no-brainer.  I use ssa-e in 2 other ARs with higher magnification scopes and i think you'd be happy with that as well.
