hi guys,

yesterday i posted a question about how i thought my bcm bcg might not have it all totally together.

after a lot of examination i found the problem of the tight fit and the bolt being really tough to move is because the gas rings are super tight... anyone know if its a good or thing?

im sure if BCM does it its a hell of a good thing but im hoping one of you knows the science behind it and can put my mind at ease! (or even just tell me what it does lol) thats the one part of the bolt im not sure of the function

thank you guys for all the help youve given me in all the threads i really cant thank you enough!

Does it function fine when shooting?

Your suppose to be able to pull the bolt out and stand the whole thing on the bolt with out it collapsing. If the bolt retracts back in to the bolt carrier the rings are getting a little week.

The gas rings are suppose to be tight. They also wear with use. Stop worrying about it and enjoy your rifle.

Shoot it and see how it cycles

Don't you already have a thread going on about this?

Yes, tight gas rings are a good thing as long as you're not seeing any malfunctions (I've never seen any from gas rings that are too tight).

They act just like piston rings in a car's engine.  They seal the gas inside the chamber where the bolt rides and help to ensure the gas stays put and does it's job of pushing the bolt carrier back thereby unlocking the bolt and cycling the gun.

If they were loose enough, you'd start seeing cycling issues.

Now stop worrying and go shoot the darn thing.

The bcg will loosen up slightly with use.

Take it apart, post pics for us to reassure you.

Lube the bolt, reassemble and take it to the range.

Report back.

It will be fine,

Perfectly fine OP. Are you afraid of shooting your new rifle or something?
